Are you looking to play a critical role in leading the development of risk assessment practices in a company with growing desire to balance risks and benefits throughout the life cycle of our assets? If so, this opportunity is for you! In this role you will perform, and present on integrity risk assessments of pipelines, facilities and storage assets using standard and non-standard tools and techniques to support department objectives and stakeholder’s requests.
Here’s what you will do:
  • Perform risk integrity assessments of pipelines, facilities, and storage assets following standard and non-standard processes.
  • Complete finite element modeling in support of pipeline integrity reliability and risk assessments
  • Conduct analysis of dent and/or geohazard features including data collection, finite element modeling using ABAQUS, reliability analysis, and documentation of results. The analysis will be based on a combination of following relevant processes and procedures, using available engineering tools, and leveraging your expertise in the field of finite element modeling and solid mechanics.
  • Support the management of stakeholders’ requests including problem definition, data collection, application of standard and non-standard assessment techniques, and communication of results.
  • Maintain continuous improvements of assessment tools and develop new techniques through:
    • Researching relevant literature
    • Performing feasibility studies and system-wide analysis
    • Building business cases for improvement ideas
    • Performing automation and improvement of existing models
  • Communicate effectively highly technical results and analysis methodologies used in standard and non-standard assessments, results, limitations, etc. to internal and external stakeholders through presentations and written communications.
  • Drive PI-Core Process implementation and other critical risk decisions.
  • Guide more junior staff members and/or external consultants to support project tasks.
  • Develop and maintain processes, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Support consequence and risk assessment models (or other complex tasks) through providing technical judgement, reliability knowledge, and other areas of technical expertise.
  • Generate industry publications and technical s to support industry advancement.
Who you are:
  • You have:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
    • Professional Engineer Designation
    • 4 years of technical experience in two or more of the following areas:
      • Risk Management related to Oil & Gas assets.
      • Pipeline integrity related projects and programs.
      • Research-related projects requiring review of industry literature, interpretation of a variety data types, and generation of conclusions and recommendations based on findings.
    • Knowledge and experience applying reliability and risk assessment methodologies: quantitative/probabilistic risk assessments, structured reliability models, Monte Carlos simulations, fault tree models, Bayesian networks.
    • Experience using ABAQUS software and stress analysis.
    • Understanding of advanced solid mechanics and finite element analysis theory.
    • Understanding of structural reliability and associated analysis methods (e.g. Monte Carlo Simulations, Response Surface Method, FORM, SORM, Importance Sampling).
    • Knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 195, ASME B31.8S, CSA Z662 and other industry regulations and standards.
    • Knowledge and experience applying reliability and risk assessment methodologies: quantitative/probabilistic risk assessments, structured reliability models, Monte Carlos simulations, fault tree models, Bayesian networks.
    • Proficiency in managing data through Excel, Pivot Tables and Power Bi.
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, statistical tools (such as @RISK and MATLAB), and large databases (using tools such as PowerPivot or PowerQuery).
    • Experience with programing languages like VBA in Excel, Octave/Matlab coding, Python or R.
    • Strong organizational, time management and planning skills.
    • Strong critical thinking skills related both to technical problems and project management.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders. This includes the ability to effectively interact with peers, internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders in both formal and informal settings.
    • Strong technical writing skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively deliver projects and stakeholder requests.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks for a dedicated project team and oversee their work.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deliver thorough technical analysis and recommendations.
  • The following are considered assets:
    • Experience with pipeline integrity reliability and risk software.
    • Post-graduate degree in a relevant field.
Working Conditions:
  • Office location: Desk work using Computers and Software.
  • Required to manage tight timelines with limited information in some instances.
  • Business travel to locations in Canada and US required
