The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

The Salvation Army currently operates a network of Independent and Special Assistance registered Schools offering education programs and pathways for young people who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from education.

The Salvation Army Schools provide a real and meaningful ‘alternative’ in meeting the needs of young people who are not suited to mainstream schools because of learning, behavioural or emotional issues. In conjunction with the range of services available through the Youth Services stream, the schools provide holistic and targeted support for this cohort of young people to continue their education, whilst supported to address barriers to maintaining their educational and ongoing goals.

We currently have an exciting new position for a values-driven and passionate National Education Manager to provide effective leadership and management across TSA schools to ensure quality delivery, in line with specific state and national requirements, TSA mission, vision and values and the Youth Services Model of Care.

You will successfully

• be accountable for the Salvation Army’s contribution to school improvement and improved learning outcomes through close collaboration with General Manager and State Managers Youth Services, TSA schools and other Salvation Army Service Areas
• lead manage and support schools, with a particular focus on the design and delivery of significant school improvement programs – in areas such as – Curriculum; Educational Policies; Student welfare policies; Parent support processes, administrative support
• develop and implement initiatives to increase capacity nationally including seeking out opportunities to create new educational communities to establish new schools
• be responsible for dealing with state regulatory bodies, compliance, state government legislation and state-based accreditation

Reporting to the General Manager Youth Services this position can be located in either Brisbane or Sydney.

This is a permanent full time position, 38 hours per week .

You will have

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or similar
• Postgraduate qualifications in Education or similar
• Extensive relevant professional work experience
• Work experience in delivering education to disengaged or vulnerable students; using trauma informed practice and a strength-based approach.
• Excellent knowledge of Australian and state curriculum and requirements
• Demonstrated capacity to lead a multi-disciplinary team
• Demonstrated leadership in delivering and developing curriculum
• Experience in providing leadership in educational settings and operating in a complex environment
• Experience in dealing flexibly and creatively with a wide range of educational issues and key stakeholders
• Experience in implementing innovative and integrated curriculum frameworks
• Experience in promoting high standards of excellence in applied learning pedagogy
• A current and valid Driver’s Licence
• Valid NSW Employee Working with Children Check/QLD Employee Blue Card
• Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
