Job Title: Underwriter | Remote Opportunity working Pacific Time Zone hours

General Summary:

Responsible for underwriting Worker’s Compensation business within designated authority level following guidelines to ensure profitable production and retention of assigned book of business as well as company profitability. #LI-Remote

Pay Range: $52,000-$57,000/year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform disciplined underwriting and pricing practices of Worker’s Compensation new and renewal business, in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
• Responsible for risk selection/declination, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
• Secures, evaluates, and interprets required information, to select, classify and rate risks appropriately, to ensure profitability.
• Works independently to meet required deadlines and task dates and can apply subjective judgment and select appropriate course of action. Manages most complex cases.
• Manages large volume of submissions, renewals, maintenance transactions, phone calls and e-mails, according to Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).
• Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers to attract and retain profitable business.
• Visits agents/producers to build and maintain business relationships and develop new opportunities in support of company goals.
• Maintains a high level of customer service by promptly responding to customer needs and meets commitments.
• May be required to work outside of core business hours depending on business needs.
• This position may require some travel/overnight stay to other work or office locations, usually by automobile or airplane.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or minimum of two to four years of related Underwriting experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2 years of experience underwriting Worker’s Compensation business
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportion, percentages.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual requires above average skills using personal computers including data entry, word processing and spreadsheet programs, and knowledge of Internet software; Microsoft products including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Working knowledge of business office practices and procedures, English grammar, spelling and business math.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This job operates in a professional office environment; this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines

• This is largely a sedentary role; however, some mobility is required
• May work early, late, or occasional weekend hours to accommodate business needs
• Occasional lifting of a maximum of 30lbs.
• Minimal travel to other office locations/meeting locations occasionally necessary
