Your Role:
We are looking for an exceptionally talented VP of Engineering to steer our Engineering function and the technical development of Emperia’s Product Vision ensuring both reliability and innovation.
VP of Engineering 1
You’ll be at the heart of our software development from launch to scale, building out a team of engineers that support our technical ambitions, transforming our Product Vision and Strategy into a technical roadmap and fostering an engineering culture of curiosity and excellence. Along with the CTO, and CEO, you will help shape the technical vision of our company, placing our dedicated team of engineers as your absolute priority.
This role is vital to support growth and our long-term vision across the company.
Responsibilities:
Create an environment focused on engineering excellence and efficient execution
(prioritising code quality and sustainable architectural decisions).
Build out and retain and run a talented, curious and motivated engineering team. In this capacity, you will spend time requirement mapping, interviewing and mentoring talent.
Set out our technical roadmap, translating vision into technical reality.
Be heavily involved in architectural decisions and tech-stack conversations to facilitate us moving quickly and meaningfully towards solving our customers pain points.
Contribute technical acumen to the product development process: thinking through
UX, mapping intuitive, elegant and friction-free UI into technical reality, and working with customers to solve their problems.
Design, implement, and monitor all operations and key performance metrics/operational efficiency for the engineering team.
Know how to recruit and develop top engineering talent.
Develop standards and procedures to ensure quality standards are met and maintained.
Maintain and optimize budgets to meet goals.
Understand and collaborate on the complete product lifecycle from concept to execution.
Recommends new technology and ideas to improve sprints and efficiency.
VP of Engineering 2
Build, develop, and manages the engineering team capable of carrying out initiatives.
Technical Requirements:
10+ years of experience leading and working in games development.
5+ years of experience leading large software engineering teams.
Experience managing distributed teams.
Strong experience with game engines, such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
Strong experience in recruiting software engineers.
A passion for agile, with experience of working in a scaled environment with high performing autonomous scrum teams. You understand how to optimise engineering practices and deliver your product roadmap though quarterly release planning and prioritisation.
A passion for delivering new product roadmaps and managing the trade offs between speed to market, customer needs and building solid technical foundations.
Experience building and operating large scale systems.
Experience of legacy modernisation and dealing with technical debt whilst delivering customer value.
Use of fact-based analyses to deliver recommendations to senior management about decisions related to managing the software development process and team.
Strong understanding of QA processes and methodologies.
Natural leadership to mentor and engage a team with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills at all levels.
Strong understanding of the technical difficulties faced in the gaming industry.
Good to have:
Broad knowledge of programming languages and software architecture.
Experience working with Unity and Unreal Engine 4.
VP of Engineering 3
You know what to look for in good software engineers of various expertise levels, and have an exceptional eye for hungry talent. You know where to find the best engineers, how to mould them into a team, and how to retain them.
General Requirements:
Previous experience in a startup environment
Detail-oriented, eager to learn, keen on asking questions and understanding the context
Proven track record in setting priorities, multi-tasking, and creative problem-solving, both individually and within a team
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to actively work with engineers and participate in technical discussions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills that are effective in both technical and business contexts.
