Job Summary

• The Diabetes Care and Education Specialist has direct responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the Diabetes Education Program at Emerson Hospital. In collaboration with the patient and clinicians, the Diabetes Care and Education Specialist designs an individualized teaching plan to meet the needs of each patient. Other responsibilities include planning and conducting continuing education programs in Diabetes Health Professionals and the general public. The Diabetes Care and Education Specialist has expertise in the care and education of persons with Diabetes with specialized needs and functions as a Resource Nurse to other healthcare team professionals, as well as the patient and their families.

Minimum Qualifications

  Education
  
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. BSN preferred.
• 
  Experience
  • Minimum three years of clinical nursing experience. with demonstrated expertise and experience in working with patients with Diabetes.
• 
  Licensure and/or Certification
  • Current license as a professional nurse in Massachusetts required.
  • BLS healthcare provider required.
  • Current Diabetes Care and Education Certification, or pending certification.
