Eating Disorders are extraordinarily complex illnesses that present with abnormalities in physical and psychological functioning. The physical complications have the potential to cause permanent damage and in some cases are life threatening. The causes are complex and multi-factorial, including genetic, neuro- developmental and environmental influences. They require a comprehensive treatment programme including medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and educational interventions.
Ellern Mede offers two treatment programmes, a Recovery Unit and a High Dependency Unit (HDU). We aim to stabilise patients’ physical and psychological states as rapidly as possible for transfer to step down service.
The HDU admits patients whose illness requires more intense levels of clinical involvement and nursing. The service is able to admit patients requiring treatment under mental health legislation. The aims of the services are to improve the patients’ health and dependency needs sufficiently for transfer to a regular eating disorder unit or to the community.
POST OUTLINE
Ellern Mede is looking for a Human Resources Advisor to undertake responsibility in all aspects of HR and support our payroll function. This role is part of our HR Operations Team who are responsible providing the delivery of an efficient and effective generalist HR service to the organisation, ensuring compliance around HR policies and procedures, but also working as an integral part of locality teams, to ensure line management issues and employee relations issues are handled well, and that managers are developed in terms of their capability as a people manager. ‘HR Drop-in Clinics’ in the North region.
The HR Advisor is responsible for a centrally based efficient and effective HR advisory service across the whole organisation (All Ellern Mede sites). Working closely with the HR & Payroll Manager, the post holder will be responsible for providing escalated professional and confidential HR advice, support and senior level administrative and project services across the full range of HR activities, including employee relations, general employment law, terms and conditions of employment, policies, procedures and a wide range of HR projects as required by the organisation.
This is a busy and dynamic post and will require someone who is highly organised and possesses excellent administrative skills, remains calm under pressure and can work to tight deadlines.
The post requires some travel across all Ellern Mede sites; however, we have flexible working policy and encourage the use of digital technology such as MS Teams. The base for the posts will either be agreed with the successful candidate.
In this role, you are accountable for:
1. Providing an excellent and proactive senior HR advisory service to managers across ALL Ellern Mede hospitals/sites. This will involve coaching and supporting managers to be confident in HR practice by offering effective HR advice and enabling them to manage employee relation issues.

2. Advising on the practical application of HR policies and procedures to both leaders, colleagues and the
HR team, including disciplinaries and grievances.
3. Ensuring the HR and Payroll administrators has a full understanding of the policies and procedures that are applicable to colleagues on different terms and conditions – Agenda for Change, providing any needed awareness/training sessions and ensuring that these can be easily accessed in a central share point.
4. In conjunction with the HR & Payroll Manager, review all current HR processes to ensure they are streamlined and fit for purpose, and lead on associated change initiatives. This includes job evaluation, correspondence sent from shared services on behalf of the HR team.
5. Developing a standard set of resources for the HR team for all Employee Relation issues. This will involve creating and sending letters, creating meeting packs, forms and flowcharts
6. Working with external HR Advisors (Citation) to ensure any significant changes that we make to our policies, procedures and processes are legally complaint and within best practice
7. Develop and maintain effective and pro-active communication channels with colleagues, their representatives and managers to ensure they are all engaged into the achievement of aims and objectives, and that key messages are understood and acted upon.
8. Owning HR projects (or parts of projects) and continual work streams, taking full responsibility and accountability for delivery, with direction and support from HR leadership.
9. Work collaboratively with the wider HR team to achieve our strategic people aims and provide a best in class colleague experience. This includes building effective working relationships with the Shared
Service’s team.
10. Being an active member of the wider HR team, continually supporting team development and challenging the status quo to ensure a consistent, value adding HR provision to leaders and colleagues
11. Alongside the Recruitment Manager, ensure that all the staff working for Ellern Mede have the right to work in the UK. Performing ECS checks and liaising with the management and staff with regards to expiry of Rights to work documents.
