Elevate Outdoor Collective Hiring for Test Lab Engineer at Des Moines, WA Full Time

Position Overview

The Engineering Test Lab is looking for a senior level engineer to help drive product validation and performance through a rigorous testing regiment. The senior engineer will be a key member of the Test Lab and work alongside other test engineers to support product development teams. Testing new materials, new processes, and products to ensure they meet all existing standards will be a key focus.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing for Elevates Research and Development Test Lab using well developed test procedures that accurately evaluate the product.
• Ability to execute ASTM and ISO Standard test procedures.
• Work closely with product development teams to minimize test turnaround time and maximize throughput. Review test methods, test standards, and document test results.
• Evaluate and characterize new and existing materials used in the manufacture of Elevates Sports Products including skis, snowboards, snowboard bindings, snowboarding boots and snowshoes.
• The ability to make a wide and diverse set of measurements including viscosity, colorimetry, adhesion, and cure speed of epoxy resins.
• Fabricate composite tensile, compression, and shear coupons for mechanical testing.
• Fabricate adhesively bonded test coupons and measure their adhesive strength.
• Use instrumentation including strain gages, accelerometers, load cells, and thermocouples to measure and record real world loads.
• Develop new processes to advance the design and manufacturing of existing K2 products as well as new products.
• Evaluate current manufacturing processes to establish process variation and address key issues. Work closely with technicians to determine the necessary actions to address your findings.
• Using CAD, design and develop new test equipment to support product testing. Coordinate and work with Machine Shop for fixture design and fabrication
• Maintain laboratory equipment including Universal Test Machines, Test Chambers, and K2-specific standalone machines to ensure they meet performance and durability requirements.

Desired Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or Material Science
• 4-6 years engineering experience with a preference for testing and validation related experience
• Knowledge and experience with SPC and DOE practices
• Strong knowledge of Material Science, especially Composites and Polymers Science.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills.
• Able to handle fast paced, large scale test programs.
• High level documentation skills to current best practices
• Self-motivated, excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Strong passion for the outdoors and backcountry sports

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)

• Work experience in a test lab or a testing environment.
• Experience with test machines and equipment such as MTS, Instron, and Tinius Olsen
• Familiarity with CAD programs such as Pro-Engineer, Solidworks
• Experience in setting up mechanical measurements using load cells, displacement transducers, strain gages and accelerometers.
• Familiarity with lab software programs such as LabView
• Familiarity with metal fabrication methods including CNCs and metal lathes
• Enthusiastic participant in skiing or snowboarding
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, self-motivated, and able to handle fast paced, large scale test programs
