POSTION SUMMARY:

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES

• Serve as a senior subject matter expert and direct the planning, design, and modification of individual software engineering projects;

• Develop and implement innovative solutions to optimize processes;

• Develop and provide technical support to developer teams around battery management software;

• Develop software requirements and software architectures;

• Generate and validate software code;

• Support documentation and validation toward FAA certification;

• Use source debuggers and visual development environments;

• Translate business requirements into technical specifications to help manage project priorities and timelines;

• Write, modify, and debug software for client applications;

• Provide analytical support and direction for the Software Engineering team, and mentor junior members;

• Test and document software for client applications;

• Analyze existing software to strategize about upgrades, features, or new platforms.

COMPETENCIES

• Creative and competent in designing and integrating software code to optimize battery performance;

• Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills;

• Strong understanding of industry standards, contracts, and protocols;

• Inspect completed software projects to ensure conformance with design standards;

• Supervise and train project staff as needed;

• Design, maintain, implement, and improve software code to meet project scope;

• Code fixes for bugs and software defects;

• C and its use in real-time, safety-critical embedded systems;

• Details of the ARM Cortex-M architecture and its use in bare metal environments;

• On-chip and external peripheral driver development, and the effective use of interrupts, polling, and DMA in firmware designs;

• Bus protocols such as CAN, A429, SPI, I2C and Ethernet;

• Software unit test and integration test development, and the design of software for testability and introspection;

• Use of development tools such as debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers;

• Examination of component data sheets and hardware schematics;

• Analyze requirements and create software designs;

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s in computer engineering; Master’s Degree preferred;

• 3-5 years of engineering experience;

• 10-15 years in safety critical software development;

• Operation in a DO-178C environment;

• Involvement in certification of critical software using DO178C and DO254;

• Development of software for fault-tolerant/redundant embedded systems;

• Development of automation tools with Python;

• Use of continuous integration pipelines and software deployment systems;

• Configuration of compiler toolchains and build systems;

• Development of software in a command-line oriented Linux environment;

• Strong understanding of industry standards, contracts, and protocols;

• Understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles and batteries;

• Strong understanding of automotive drivelines and vehicle architectures;

• Technical capacity in terms of designing battery cells, BMS and other required components.
