About the position

EFFECT Photonics is looking for an experienced – Product Engineer – OSAModule

We are seeking an experienced Product Engineer with broad history in new product introduction in an outsource supply chain model. You will be the subject matter expert for OSA Assembly and PCBA assembly processes. Must have >5yrs experience of working with manufacturers of Optical Networking components and have ability to travel to Asia (Thailand / Malaysia). Master’s degree preferred. The chosen candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment; work well in a team environment; and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Product Engineer s to the Technical Operations Lead.

Role responsibilities:

• Serves in the role of Technical Lead on New Product Introduction projects for OSA and Module designs from component through full assembly processshipment.

• Direct factory interface for process development, monitoring and governance. This can include transition, new product introduction, product failure analysis and issue resolution

• Responsible for specification compliance for New Product Introduction projects.

• Coordinates with our outsource partners the development of methods, tools and processes to enable the manufacture of micro-electronics components.

• Works with internal customers to ensure clear understanding of requirements.

• Identifies technical risks and develops mitigation strategies.

• Conducts and coordinates analyses to assess and validate product designs and process designs with our contract partners

• Developing new and maintaining, or improving, existing manufacturing processes with a focus on production capabilities and affordability

• Providing ROI justification for process improvements

• Creating and managing project plans (tasks, resources, and schedules) for process development activities

• Use your experience driving DOEs to developing and optimizing process parameters

• Ensure accurate process documentation and work instructions to reflect “as built”

• Focal point for monitoring process yields and cost. Lead recommending and implementing quality improvements to drive improved metrics

• Drive solving of manufacturing problems (related to materials, designs, equipment and tooling, training, and instructions) in support of production plan.

• Recommending product design improvements to facilitate process compliance, yield improvement and cost optimization.

• Documenting state-of-the-art process capabilities and guidelines for product designers

• Participating in design producibility reviews for new products

• Providing supplier support, as needed, to resolve issues within supply base

• Providing Request for Proposal (RFP) input specifically as it relates to Non-Recurring Engineering (RE) requirements such as tooling, capital equipment and/or new process development

About You

Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities

A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Optics, or related field along with 5 years hand on experience working with Optical componentmodule packaging. The chosen candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment; work well in a team environment; and have excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Optics, or related field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, etc) Advanced degree highly desirable.

• >5 years of experience in optics-related field in manufacturing role

• Strong experience with die packaging, lens alignment, wire bonding, adhesives, gold box packaging, soldering, PCBA and general assembly processes.

• Proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD software.

• Strong competency with statistical analysis packages

• Strong competency with design for manufacturability, tolerance stackup and process controls.

• Experience with Product Documentation Management (PDM) systems desirable.

• Experience with DOE/DFMEA/PFMEA.

• Effective communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to develop product training guidelines, methods and mentoring of contract manufacturing partners.

• Ability to work across time zones with North America, EU and Asia

• Ability to travel to Asia supply base as required to facilitate transitions, NPI or issue resolution.
