The Opportunity
Be part of one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK. At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors (European Pressurised Water Reactor-EPR), the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, HPC will make a major contribution to the UK’s move to reduce carbon emissions.
As the Education and Outreach Coordinator you will sit within the Education & Skills function of the HPC Employment Affairs unit (EAU). Your day to day will include project planning/design, development and implementation of outreach activities that focus on the workforce mobilisation needs for HPC. This role is essential in ensuring HPC delivers its commitments to the local community and the project’s legacy ambitions. You will be based in one of our Bridgwater offices but there will be flexibility to work from home 2/3 days per week.
You will be responsible for the delivery of the Young HPC (YHPC) programme within the Skills and Education function of the EAU, with an emphasis on the HPC projects activity pre workforce. You will be expected to collate input from a range of subject matter experts, liaising with individuals from across the EAU, as well as, contract partners, delivery partners and specifically external stakeholders in the education sectors, such as schools, colleges and universities to meet the Workforce Development Strategy outlined in the annual implementation plan for Apprenticeship and Young People.
The Role
The responsibilities of the role will include but not limited to the below;
- Responsible for the operational delivery of the HPC Education programmes (Inspire and Young HPC) to required quality, time, budget and scope maximising the transition from pre and post 16 year old members into employment opportunities across the HPC project, working with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for the design, development and delivery of YHPC programmes that provide access routes for apprenticeships.
- Develop the content of the YHPC webpage on Team Hinkley C web pages to ensure a consistently improving point of engagement for young people that will lead to employment opportunities.
- Design, implement and develop the ‘Education and Skills’ development internal and external digital platforms.
- Lead the continual delivery of the Education & Skills customer relations management system contract, and all relevant suppliers, addressing any changes in audience engagement and responsible for ensuring reporting requirements to time and budget.
- Support the Education Lead in the delivery of internal and external reporting obligations ensuring that statutory obligations and other education and skills targets related to the HPC project are met.
- Responsible for the delivery of outreach events across the wider EAU function and its work streams working with and influencing regional stakeholders and local authorities to promote the aims and objectives of the HPC EAU education and wider skills ambitions to positively contribute to both the project needs and the wider regional skills agenda.
- Responsible for stakeholder management & communication working with the project’s communications team to ensure the Education and Outreach ambitions and achievements are highlighted, demonstrating wide socio-economic value in the local area.
The Skills
Essential
- Experience in education, skills and employment (specifically apprenticeships and vocational training).
- Strong organisational, administrative and analytical skills required.
- Strong understanding of ‘social value’ and ‘return on investment’.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders – engaging, managing and influencing where required both internally and externally.
- Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Reacts positively to conflicting priorities and changing situations and when necessary can translate these changes in actions and outcomes.
- Commitment to the continuous improvement of safety and quality standards.
- Experience in coordinating projects to meet timescales and deadlines.
- Experience of using and demonstrating impact with social media platforms.
Desirable
- Project coordination experience.
- Experience of the design, development and delivery of new educational skills programme.
- Experience of working within a complex regulated environment with the ability to adapt to the contrasting needs of contract partners.
