About the role

Do you have experience of system configuration or SQL and want to work for a company which will support and encourage you to develop your skills further?

We’re replacing our core insurance system and are looking for a Software Engineer to configure changes to our new system. Working within an agile SCRUM framework, you’d be part of a team delivering an innovative new solution to our business.

Key accountabilities

• Develop, support and maintain our new packaged solution suite including:

– Product configuration

– Workflow set up and monitoring

– Rules definition

– Customisation of screen behaviour

– Financial data set-up

– Document creation

• Working in collaboration with the wider systems development and system test teams to ensure successful completion and implementation of changes.
• Provide walkthrough’s of changes, handover documentation and skills transfer to others as required (testing, training and application support).
• Working with senior developers, business analysts, and product owner to produce systems designs and specifications and validate designs produced by external suppliers.
• Be accountable to the Scrum master for all development work.
• Configure applications that are fit-for-purpose and support wider Business Solutions Strategic & Legislative objectives.
• Documented promotion of code between environments following the change control processes.
• Able to understand and interpret business requirements in order to establish suitable technical solution.
• Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing which is appropriate to audience being engaged with.
• Works within established boundaries whilst proactively seeking new ways of working SMARTER.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

• A strong interest in technology and development practices.
• Problem solving capabilities.
• Confident communicator at all levels.
• The ability to be resourceful, self-sufficient and to work independently as well as in an established team.

Desirable

• Experience in providing IT 3rd level application support.
• Good understanding of the Scrum framework, and experience of working in an agile development environment.
• Understanding of software design and software architecture principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Having a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret business requirements to create fit for purpose solutions.
• Previous experience in configuring IT systems and document creation to deliver timely business solutions.
• Knowledge of using Jira as a task management tool.
• Ability to create medium complexity SQL statements.
