About this position:

Join our amazing Independent Living Team and become an Independent Living Instructor!

What does an Independent Living Instructor do?

You would work one-on-one with people with developmental disabilities who live on their own. You would empower your clients to reach their personal goals of independence and community participation. You would teach life skills in a motivating, personalized, and professional environment. As a full-time Instructor, you would have a caseload of around 5-9 clients. The caseloads are concentrated throughout Alameda County.

This job is a good way to gain experience in the non-profit sector, social work, social services, occupational therapy, mental health, or case management. We seek people who want to make a difference in the lives of others and are both gifted teachers and teachable themselves.

What does your typical day supporting one of your amazing clients look like?

• Help with money management
• Assist at Medical and dental
• Medication management
• Basic cooking and meal preparation
• Utilizing public transportation
• Locating affordable housing
• Obtaining and maintaining benefits such as Social Security, Medi-Cal, Medicare, etc.
• Community and social awareness
• Household maintenance
• We know COVID is still a real thing in our world. Our program has made some changes and modifications during the Shelter In Place. We are starting to slowly go back out in the community.

Who are we looking for?

• Someone with experience in human services, social services, social work, case management, mental health, occupational therapy, or non-profit sector
• Experience working with people with disabilities is a plus
• Committed to the philosophy of individualized services, independence, and community inclusion
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem solving skills
• Self-motivated and able to work effectively both as a team and independently
• You must have a reliable vehicle, auto insurance and be willing to DRIVE OWN CAR (mileage reimbursement offered)

What’s the schedule?

This is a part-time to full-time, 40 hours per week position. You would work a consecutive 8 hour day between the hours of 9am and 7pm flexible, Monday through Friday, driving time included.

Salary: $19.58 per hour
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided to all staff and clients. This includes face masks, face shields, gloves, disinfectant, hand sanitizer and more!
