Our Timmins sawmill, a subsidiary of Interfor, has an exciting opportunity to learn and grow into a Production Superintendent within the Management Team.
Reporting to the Mill Manager and working in close collaboration with all members of the management team, you will acquire knowledge and experience over a 12 to 18 months term while familiarizing yourself with all areas of the process. You will be developing the skills necessary to directly manage a team and supervise production activities and thus contribute to the success of the plant.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Gain solid working knowledge of the sawmill and planer equipment and operations, in addition you will gain exposure to yard, inventories and shipping, kilns, quality control and maintenance with some exposure to woodlands.
Learn efficiencies in terms of production, maintenance, quality, etc., by ensuring the safety of staff on site and in work areas in compliance with all government regulations and company policies and procedures.
Acquire the skills to coordinate interdepartmental activities, minimize downtime, continuous improvement programs, maintenance systems, maximize performance and achieve performance targets.
Develop efficient communication techniques to successfully lead work teams with work instructions, training and cross-training for all production positions and assist with evaluating employee performance.
Understand and be willing to learn annual operating budgets to achieve set performance indicators for the sawmill.
Study daily, weekly, and monthly reports about current activities and key performance indicators.
Find out how continuous improvement programs and maintenance systems are developed to maximize performance and achieve performance targets.
Help implement capital and optimization projects with stakeholders.
Foster information sharing and communication within teams, skills development, strengthen employee engagement, autonomy, and accountability.
Understand, interpret and apply the principles of labor relations and clauses of the collective agreement.
Participate in the production planning process and assist with troubleshooting issues.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
Post-Secondary degree or diploma (or willing to obtain) in wood products or forestry field or equivalent.
Experience in health and safety, operations analysis, and continuous improvement.
Supervisory experience in an industrial, manufacturing or in a wood products manufacturing environment.
Have experience in a unionized environment.
Knowledge and skills in the use of production systems.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, and operating systems).
Must be available to work flexible schedules to meet the operational needs.
