Overview:
E2 is looking for multiple Underground Distribution Engineers to join our team in Southern California (remote work is also available) to support several major electric utility clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and preparing underground distribution line projects including but not limited to: plan and profiles, trench and conduit design, cable and connector design, cable pole or overhead pole removal design, and material selection in compliance with safety, environmental and client standards and policies. The position will work under the direction of the senior engineer and will directly to the distribution Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed design and engineering calc’s of the underground electric distribution systems to comply with the client’s standards, specifications, preferences, and relevant industry standards (GO95, GO128, NESC, RUS etc.)
- Perform field evaluation of proposed installation sites as required.
- Verify Bill of Materials meet the requirements of the design and client needs.
- Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop/flicker and pulling tension calculations.
- Conduct electrical design review meetings and provide minutes.
- Interface with project management and designers during the design phase.
- Support manufacturing with fabrication drawings and other related information as required.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with the project manager, client, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Perform careful self-checking activities to ensure the quality of work before it is presented to senior design reviewers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university.
- 0-5 years of experience working in distribution design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
- Basic knowledge of electrical distribution systems
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification preferred but not required.
- Experience with distribution design and construction standards for San Diego Gas & Electric.
- Experience with overhead-to-underground conversion projects.

Wage Data Per State Requirements:
Salary range for this position is $85,000 – $120,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
