The Position: We’re looking for a Dyslexia Tutor, a.k.a. Academic Language Therapist, to work one-on-one with children, teaching them reading, handwriting, and spelling, using the Orton-Gillingham Approach. Twice-weekly, hour-long tutoring sessions are conducted either online or in-person. Lesson plans are required for each tutoring session. Tutors must be comfortable communicating with parents in a respectful and professional manner.

Requirements: Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a Bachelor’s degree and have completed a 40-hour Orton-Gillingham Approach training in the last 5 years (acceptable trainings include those offered by Wilson, Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE), a fellow with the Academy of Orton Gillingham or Take Flight). Applicants must have experience working with children in an academic setting. Tutors must be available on weekday afternoons (3-5pm) to tutor.

Compensation: Starting pay is $50 per one hour tutoring session, including prep time.

Other Benefits: We have Team Meetings to support each other and share ideas. You are paid $20 for your time. DSOC will reimburse you for 50% of the cost of one Orton-Gillingham related conference you attend each calendar year. DSOC will reimburse you for related items you purchase specifically for tutoring such as a document camera or headphones.
