Technical Designer – Women’s/Plus/Juniors Swimwear

Established swimwear company in midtown seeks Technical Designer to join our team. Womens/Plus/Juniors.

Responsibilities include:

• Working from sketch and/or sample to create accurate tech packs/specs for overseas factories
• Working closely with Design and Production to achieve desired garment look and fit while minimizing cost and production time
• Evaluating samples for spec, fit and construction
• Conduct live model Fit sessions and understand all fit issues.
• Communicating daily with factories and buyers via email, phone and client-based online systems
• Solving all spec, fit and construction issues via email with the factories
• Creating and grading digital patterns for factory and sample room use
• Occasionally creating virtual samples using 3D pattern software.

The ideal candidate should have the following:

• Solid knowledge of garment construction and fit
• Experience working in Illustrator and Excel
• Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to be responsible for product lines while following direction from team leaders
• Familiarity with patternmaking – either digital or paper patterns
• Solution-oriented approach to challenges and new experiences
• Positive, team-player attitude

Qualifications:

• 8 – 10 years experience in Apparel Industry/Technical Design/Design
• Swimwear or Intimate Experience a MUST.
• Must understand garment construction, grading, foam pad, cups and wire development and have a good eye for fit.
• Proficient in Illustrator. Excel and Optitex.
