Role: Academic & Training Manager

Location: Three days per week, including one day of teaching (either online or F2F)

Reporting to: Director of Operations

Starting Salary: £32K

Who are we?

Dragons Teaching are on a mission to champion the learning of modern foreign languages in schools and homes in the UK and beyond! We have pioneered the learning of Mandarin Chinese across UK schools and are now further developing our mission by offering online solutions in Spanish & French as well as EAL support for new arrivals to the UK.

We are seeking an Academic & Training Manager to join our growing team. An experienced online language teacher in their own right, the ideal candidate will be looking to make the leap from teacher to manager and will work across Dragons to interview, select, train and monitor our teachers and teaching quality across all of our language platforms. We are seeking a passionate educator and linguist who can quickly learn our current systems & programmes while also supporting our Operations team to scope and plan new courses and new rollouts with partner schools around the world.

What you’ll be doing:

· Interviewing teachers and overseeing their assignment to our different clients

· Running induction training courses for our new teachers on our multi-language Connect platforms as well as ongoing CPD workshops

· Observing online classes (both live and via recordings) and running subsequent feedback sessions

· Monitoring class quality and supporting teachers to resolve problems with the classes

Role Specifics

· Running group interviews for prospective teachers

· Leading on induction training sessions for new teachers and ensuring that said teachers are ready to deliver Dragons’ courses

· Designing and running CPD sessions for teachers as required

· Following up on teacher queries and troubleshooting issues between teachers and clients

· Observing teachers at regular intervals and providing written and oral feedback to teachers

· Writing pedagogical documentation for schools about our courses and curriculums

· Supporting the Business Operations Manager to monitor teaching quality across our platforms and ensuring safeguarding compliance

· Visiting schools where we deliver our programmes face to face to observe lessons and support our teachers

· Acting as a substitute teacher (where possible), in both online and face to face settings

Essential requirements

· Educated to degree level

· 2-3 years’ experience teaching languages, ideally online

· Speak at least one of Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic or French to a high standard

· Experience training & supporting other teachers

· Excellent general IT skills & highly proficient in Microsoft Office

· Great presentation skills

· Exceptional time management skills and detail focused

· Quick learner and a self-starter with a pro-active approach to problem solving

· Great communication skills

Desired skill

· Educated to PGCE level or a modern foreign languages degree holder

· Fluency in additional languages (particularly the core ones which we teach)

· Experience designing training materials
