JOB PURPOSE

The CEO & GM is a forward thinking, business minded leader responsible for contributing to the optimization of the company’s business strategy by effectively leveraging meaningful data and insights to support operational and strategic decision making across a complex, national business environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead by example to set the tone and culture of the organization and set key strategic objectives in conjunction with the Regional office and other stakeholders.
• Determine the short-term, mid-term and long-term objectives and ensure that action plans, policies and organizational structures are in place to meet those objectives.
• Build upon DP World’s well-established brand in the market to maintain sustainable clientele and drive market growth.
• Represent the company with all key stakeholders including customers, suppliers, competitors, investors, the community, governmental agencies, professional/ business associations, and the ILWU, to promote the company’s interests and assets with an aim to maximize value.
• Take lead accountability for the safe and secure operation of the terminals, protecting employee and employer interests to the highest standards.
• Lead the physical development, maintenance and operation of the terminals, including managing third party relationships and representing the best interest of DP World in line with budget and legal requirements.
• Create a work environment that’s aligned with the company’s cultural aspiration and develop high performing teams with identified succession for all key roles.
• Promote and demonstrate positive behaviours in harmony with DP World’s Our Principles.
• Establish effective leadership and participation in the HSEMS through demonstration and display of safety behaviours.
• Actively communicate the HSEMS requirements with superintendents, foreman, contractors, and workers.
• Participate in the review and development of materials and documentations in the HSEMS.
• Work in accordance with the Security Management System, including the immediate reporting of any suspicious activities to senior management and/or the Security Officer.
• Understand the consequences related to inappropriate conduct or behaviour or disregard for safety and security programs, policies and procedures.
• Ensure workers under your direction are properly trained and educated to perform their duties.
• Ensure that operations comply with both the law and the HSEMS.
• Conduct regular inspections of the workplace and correct unsafe conditions and behaviours.
• Ensure that personnel under your direction have a clear understanding of the discipline policy for dealing with consequences of inappropriate conduct or behaviour.
• Ensure that the highest levels of safety are applied in all activities.
• Understand and adhere to DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

In order to give credible support to the organisation and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following:

• A degree in business, operational management, logistics or other related field.
• At least 8-10 years in progressively senior terminal operations management roles with substantial experience in operational safety management.
• Advanced knowledge of terminal safety and security procedures and protocols.
• Proven leadership capability, the confidence to communicate with all levels of management and demonstrated success in dynamic environments.
• Experienced negotiator and a self-starter with the ability to adapt to stressful environments by using a sociable but firm approach, as well as engendering trust and integrity.
• Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to motivate, develop and encourage staff to positively contribute to business goals and objectives.
• High level analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills.
• Management of all key stakeholder relationships including shareholders and external government agencies.
• Proven business acumen and experience with managing and understanding complex commercial contracts.
• Strong commitment to client service excellence with the ability to build solid relationships.
