DMA Engineering Hiring for Energy Engineer Full Time

DMA Engineering is seeking an Energy Engineer who understands how a building is constructed—whether residential, commercial or industrial. This engineer has the capacity and capability to take a building from a set of plans and fully develop an energy model with construction types and mechanical systems; has an understanding of the location of thermal breaks or bridges and how to model them using closed form solutions of the use of an FEA package. When determined by the team that a CFD model is needed, this Energy Engineer can develop a model to accurately simulate an indoor space. They also have experience with and a base of understanding of HVAC systems.

Core Responsibilities Include

• Utilize energy simulation software for building optimization and analysis— including heating/cooling load calculations and utilization of commissioning software.
• Apply in-depth understanding of advanced commercial HVAC systems to evaluate options, simulate performance, analyze results, develop recommendations, prepare financial analyses, and present to clients.
• Create field-monitoring plans and sensor deployment plans for building systems.
• Analyze drawings and perform site surveys to determine building operational characteristics.
• Prepare logically organized, technically accurate, clear emails and s.
• Outline work plans prior to starting work, maintain logically organized and labeled files, and adequately document decisions or activities.
• Understand contract work scopes, work within budgets, and meet billable targets.
• Be an effective project manager, acting as a point of contact for clients, tracking schedules and deliverables, and producing or delegating as needed to get the work done.
• Add value to DMA’s sustainability consulting endeavors on high performance building design projects.
• Leverage other team members’ expertise or knowledge when needed; understand when to ask for help; do what needs to be done that may fall outside the formalized job role.

Experience and Skill Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 0-4 years of experience with focus on HVAC design and energy modeling
• Experience with energy modeling software such as EnergyPlus, DesignBuilder,
• Open Studio, eQUEST, or similar software.
• Experience with FEA, CFD (e.g., OpenFOAM FlowSimulation)
• Knowledge of building science, energy systems and controls, and the ability to develop strategies to reduce energy consumption
• Knowledge of standards, codes, and rating systems associated with sustainability and energy performance
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Ability to effectively prioritize multiple, simultaneous projects

Ideal candidates will also have:

• Working knowledge of computer-aided design tools (e.g., Revit)
• Experience with programming VBA or Python
• Experience with commissioning software such as SkySpark or Python is a plus
• Experience writing, reviewing, and presenting client project proposals
• English-Spanish bilingual candidates a plus

Location and Hours

DMA’s offices are located in beautiful Golden, Colorado. This is a full-time position which allows a hybrid remote and in-person schedule. The Energy Engineer must live in Colorado and be able to commute to Golden as well as visit client sites in the region.
