Division of Medical Oncology & Hematology, Toronto General Hospital is Looking for Academic Hematologist (Hemoglobinopathies), Toronto General Hospital Full Time

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University Health Network (UHN) are seeking to recruit an Academic Hematologist (Hemoglobinopathies) for the Toronto General Hospital’s Blood Disorders Program. The successful candidate will have an academic position of Clinician Teacher, must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher) at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter.

The position is well suited to an early or mid-career physician with an interest in Sickle Cell, Thalassemia, other red cell disorders and complex iron overload. Strong collaborative skills are required to work in this multi-disciplinary clinic which is the largest of its kind in North America. The role will be primarily outpatient clinic based, though will also participate in the hematology consultation service. The candidate should have a strong academic interest in postgraduate MD teaching and also in alignment with their preferred academic job description. Additional qualifications in these domains are required.

The Blood Disorders Program is a core program within the Division of Medical Oncology & Hematology at the University Health Network. As one of the top health networks in the world, the University Health Network encompasses the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, the Toronto General Hospital and the Toronto Western Hospital, along with each of their respective world-class research institutes: The Princess Margaret Cancer Research Institute, Toronto General Research Institute and the Krembil Research Institute.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the passion and vision to fulfill UHN’s mandate, fostering innovative and collaborative multi-disciplinary, multi-departmental and international educational and quality improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Hematology, and have, or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $250,000-$300,000 CAD and is subject to agreed job description, plus fee for clinical service, and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
