District of Carleton North is Looking for Beautification Operator Full Time

Job Purpose

The Beautification Operator is responsible for performing day-to-day beautification duties in the District of Carleton North (DCN) to ensure an attractive and appealing environment. Under the supervision of The Beautification Operator Lead (BOL), the incumbent assists in the landscaping and maintenance of grounds on municipal-owned properties. The incumbent may be required to perform ground maintenance, as well as other duties within DCN as the need arises.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the job duties and responsibilities of the Beautification Operator. The following statements are intended to describe the nature and level of work being performed but may not be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities required for the position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the BOL as necessary.

1. Performs gardening tasks for DCN properties.

• Survey trees, plants and flower beds to assess winter damage. Tidy up in and around flower beds, remove leaves, dead plant material and garbage;
• Add compost and mulch to selected trees and beds;
• Aerate, top dress, seed and fertilize parks and flower beds;
• Plants and prunes shrubs, hedges and trees;
• Plants, waters and weeds flower beds, window boxes and planters;
• Provides input/assistance on projects related to beautification.

2. Performs ground maintenance.

• Performs routine groundskeeping and maintenance tasks for municipal outdoor facilities;
• Performs lawn care and maintenance functions including mowing, trimming, sodding and seeding as required;
• Completes opening of Sam’s Park including installing flags, getting water going, put out benches, tables etc. and weekly maintenance such as mowing the greens and park, raking the sand traps, cleaning the washroom, and maintenance of flower beds;
• Assists with other duties that includes sweeping of park and facility walkways and entrances.

3. Performs other general tasks as requested.

• Responsible under the direction of the Facilities and Maintenance Manager for the set-up and take-down of items for municipal functions, including helping with furniture and equipment, carrying supplies, arranging decorations, etc.;
• On Market days, help with set up and take down, assist vendors, and occasionally direct traffic.
• Ensures all tools and equipment used in the course of performing duties are kept clean and well-maintained and stored in a safe and secure location;
• Provides other manual labour services on various assignments.

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job are as follows:

• High School graduation;
• 1-3 years of experience in gardening or landscape maintenance;
• Valid New Brunswick driver’s license Class 5;
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Salary: $14.75 per hour
