Senior Software Engineer, DMSchedules

LOCATION

DMGroup’s headquarters are located in Boston, MA. This role can be based out of DMGroup’s Boston office, with flexibility to work from home up to three days a week. Strong candidates will be considered for a 100% remote work arrangement.

ABOUT THE POSITION

DMGroup is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its DMSchedules team. The Senior Software Engineer position offers an opportunity to play a critical role fulfilling our firm’s mission to improve public education. We develop innovative web applications to solve pressing challenges faced by K-12 district and school leaders. The ideal candidate will be well versed in Ruby on Rails, Javascript, CSS, HTML, SQL, familiar with Agile-based methodologies, and ready to continuously learn and grow. WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Design and develop features for our DMSchedules platform (dmschedules.com) in partnership with our VP of Product Development
• Leverage established coding best practices to write clean and efficient code based on user stories and wireframes
• Contribute to our CI/CD practices (unit and integration tests, code promotion (QA, Staging, Production), etc.)
• Engage in our teams’ agile-based practices and ceremonies (e.g., Planning, Huddles, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives)
• Work closely with QA team members to ensure proper and complete testing of features
• Support maintenance activities for the platform (e.g. troubleshooting/debug, bug fixes, technical debt)

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates should have/be able to:

• 4+ years professional experience developing web applications
• 2+ years experience with Ruby on Rails
• 1+ years experience with Javascript and Javascript frameworks
• Proficiency in HTML and CSS
• Proficiency in SQL and relational databases
• Experience with Git, Bitbucket, or other version control systems
• Experience with PaaS (Heroku a plus)
• Experience with TDD, BDD, CI and CD
• Clear understanding of developer best practices, code patterns, and performance optimization
• Able to translate functional requirements into technical implementation
• Efficient and effective problem solver
• Passionate attention to detail
• Experience within an Agile development environment
• Enjoy working in a nimble and flexible development team
• Strong collaborator, both within a small team and cross-functionally
• Quality, customer and service oriented
• Interest in K-12 education
