Training Specialist V – The Director of Education and Training performs administrative and supervisory work, coordinating all vocational programs and active treatment services for the individuals residing at the Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center (SSLC). Develops new ideas and techniques for programs and services using creativity and innovation to ensure opportunities exist for individuals to maximize their independence and abilities. Organizes, plans, and coordinates functions involved in the operation and administration of all active treatment, vocational, Chaplaincy, and community inclusion programs to ensure goals and objectives are achieved. Maximizes utilization of all personnel, facilities, and equipment. Serves as Section Lead to facilitate the integration of Habilitation, Education, Training and Skill Acquisition with all other facility sections towards compliance with the Department of Justice (DOJ) Settlement Agreement. Analyzes and evaluates program operations and procedures, presenting recommendation for modification and improvements to facility administrators. Participates in the review of proposals for new program operations to determine purposes and objectives. Develops and implements policies and procedures throughout assigned areas. Leads all day, vocational and community inclusion program staff in maintaining ICF/IID certification. Carries out special administrative assignments. Participates in conferences and serves on committees. Stays well informed on relevant development and training programs. Preforms managerial duties such as hiring, training and developing assigned staff. Serves in role of Administrator on Duty or Executive Duty Officer on a rotating basis. Works under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Programs (ADoP) with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of leadership and management tools.
Knowledge of education/training and active treatment methods, tools, techniques, and processes.
Knowledge of the DOJ settlement Agreement, or ability to gain that knowledge.
Knowledge and experience in facility policies and record-keeping procedures.
Knowledge of ICF/IID standards, state laws and facility policy, or ability to gain that knowledge.
Ability to prepare and administer a budget.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to work independently and to work cooperatively in a teamwork situation.
Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers.
Ability to follow directions and work in concert with administrative supervisory staff.
Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and use good judgment when dealing with critical incidents.
Ability to appropriately delegate, supervise, and motivate.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
None
Six (6) years work experience in a community inclusion or vocational/active treatment-services related field, at least some of which includes leading, directing and/or supervising the work of others.
Experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred.
Experience in a setting providing services to 100 or more clients is preferred.

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
