Dillon’s Planning and Design technical group is looking for an Environmental Planner to join one of our Ontario offices. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. You will be a key part of our multidisciplinary group serving public and private sector clients, including Metrolinx and the Ministry of Transportation.
Responsibilities:
What your day will look like
As part of a team, you will work to deliver transportation-focussed Environmental Assessments by:
Working with multi-disciplinary teams on exciting and challenging projects, with a focus on removing barriers and improving access on roads, highways, transit, and active transportation facilities
Helping the Project Management team by coordinating, scheduling and attending meetings, taking minutes, monitoring project schedules, managing data, and participating in workflow and priority setting discussions
Coordinating environmental deliverables and reviews, including liaising with subconsultants
Engaging with Indigenous community representatives
Monitoring environmental commitments
Writing reports in plain language that clearly summarize the outcomes of technical studies and communicate project details, including a traceable methodology used to arrive at a preferred solution or recommended design
Contributing to the development of notices, newsletters, project websites, presentations, and public information materials that are informative, attractive, and engaging.
Helping prepare for, coordinating, attending and potentially presenting at workshops and meetings with internal and external teams, clients, stakeholders and the public.
Staying up-to-date with the latest trends in transportation, including: sustainable and micro-modes, funding opportunities, and the move towards “All Ages and Abilities” design
Commiting to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
Contributing to business development activities including proposal preparation and presentations
Actively participating in professional associations and committees
Qualifications:
What you will need to succeed
Recent graduate with a degree in planning, environmental studies, geography or a related field with a strong interest in environmental assessment (EA)
Ability to work independently (self-driven) and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team environment
Strong communication skills, including report writing, organization and oral presentation
Passionate about transportation and solving problems related to access, congestion, active transportation, and transit
Interest in stakeholder engagement, including interacting directly with members of the public as well as innovative digital engagement methods (e.g., virtual reality, online engagement platforms)
Strong data management skills to assist with complex evaluation in support of decision-making, and tracking related to stakeholder engagement
Experience using GIS and/or graphics software would be considered an asset
Experience:
Experience and/or interest in EAs for transportation and transit infrastructure
Familiarity with EA requirements and legislation, including Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP), Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities, and the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act
Cross-disciplinary experience (i.e.; biology, heritage) would be considered an asset
