Job Overview
This role reports into the Senior Manager, Communications and works in sync with the Marketing and Communications Digital team. This role is the key account manager for the Fund Development team where you will develop and implement strategies and plans to support special events (virtual and on-site); corporate partnerships/sponsorship activities; major gifts, planned giving and community-based initiatives. Key responsibilities and oversight include strategic and integrated marketing and communications support, public and media relations, and promoting awareness of Diabetes Canada and fund development initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, the ability to work independently and with all levels of management. Experience dealing with the media is required.
Scope of Role:
Support Fund Development team on all facets of Diabetes Canada marketing and communications strategies, including paid/earned media, public relations materials, and communication tools/templates.
Develop in collaboration with key Fund Development areas (direct response marketing, corporate and community development and planned giving) marketing plans specific to those initiatives.
Prepare news release templates, media advisories, event listings, key messages, backgrounders, briefing notes, articles, and other communication tools.
Plan, solicit and arrange publicity and media relations for staff and volunteers and generate favorable media coverage for diabetes.
Create media lists, research editorial calendars and other editorial media opportunities, in conjunction/support of national media relations activities.
In collaboration with Fund Development leads, develop and implement strategies and materials to fulfill marketing and communications fundraising objectives/campaigns in support of fundraising and events team as well as on site/virtual special events support.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual social media/digital reports to help guide areas of opportunity and improvements.
Oversee and support the development of creative tools such as invitations, brochures, posters, etc.
Develop templates for proposals and impact reports (using internal/external vendors).
Write copy for internal publications, e-blasts, speaking remarks and provide copy-editing support.
Works with Marketing and Communications and Fund Development colleagues to ensure strategic goals and objectives are incorporated into all marketing and communication activities, to meet the specific needs of various Diabetes Canada customer and audience segments.
Leads projects and processes to develop, operate and measure reinforcement of Diabetes Canada image.
Provide functional expertise and leadership for brand management
Build organizational excellence, a collaborative working environment and a positive culture
Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
Candidate Qualifications:
You have a minimum of three to five years’ experience in marketing/or corporate marketing and communications/public relations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
You are passionate about the evolving marketing and communications landscape and a strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in various marketing and communications and digital media/social media platforms.
Solid understanding of brand reputation policies, practices and principles and experience working cross-functionally specifically with communications and public relations.
Excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects / deadlines gracefully, fostering teamwork amongst colleagues.
Exceptional eye for detail and great problem solving and decision-making skills.
You are comfortable in front of senior leadership, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with the media, donors, members, the general public, employees, volunteers, sponsors and other organizations.
Computer literacy in word-processing and desktop publishing software. Familiarity with new media and graphic design.
Self-motivated and capable of decision making within established guidelines.
Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, energetic team player.
University degree or diploma in communications, marketing or related discipline.
Experience in media relations.
Experience in e-blast writing.
Experience working for a non-profit Fundraising organization and/or with volunteers an asset.
