Devon’s Digital and Technology Service (D&TS) has a full time, permanent vacancy for someone with geographical information systems (GIS) knowledge, such as the ESRI ArcGIS platform, along with a wider experience and understanding of IT systems and tools used to manage service delivery.

This post is in our Software as a Service (SaaS) team. The SaaS team is responsible for the development, management and maintenance of software solutions on behalf of Devon County Council.  They also manage relationships with several third-party suppliers. Our solutions use a wide variety of technologies, spanning both traditional on-premises and cloud platforms. While your focus will be GIS, you will have an opportunity to get involved in helping the wider SaaS team deliver their objectives and gain experience in new areas of technology.

For this particular post, you will be able to work as part of a team to plan and deliver service improvement, with an understanding of how to build and run systems that help improve front line service delivery. You will provide additional first line GIS support and mapping services. You will understand how to collect, digitize, and maintain GIS data accurately, including GIS surveying, map production, updating mapping and asset management systems. You will have a good working knowledge and practical experience of using JavaScript.  Good theoretical understanding of GIS concepts, certified training on ESRI ArcGIS platform and data manipulation skills using SQL and Python are all highly desirable. Any experience migrating GIS solutions to Azure would also be beneficial.

The post is currently located at Great Moor House, Exeter, but this will change to County Hall, Exeter during 2022. You must be able to travel to other sites around Devon, and occasionally beyond, as required to meet the demands of the post. However, most Council staff are currently working at home wherever possible, so you must be confident about working remotely through on-line meetings.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
