Department of Veterans’ Affairs Hiring for APS5 Veterans’ Children Education Schemes Secretary Job at Hobart Full Time

The Veteran’s Children Education Scheme (VCES) provide financial assistance, student support services, guidance and counselling for eligible children to help them achieve their full potential in education or career training. The VCES team is responsible decision making and processing of claims for clients, in line with relevant legislation and policies. They also manage work associated with in-bound phone calls, emails and client engagement.

The VCES team also coordinates the Long Tan Bursary, which provides funding to help eligible children and grandchildren of Australian Vietnam veterans meet the cost of post secondary education and to help them obtain formal qualifications and skills needed to pursue their chosen career.

The key duties of the position include:

• Assist with the administration of the Veterans’ Children Education Scheme (VCES) and the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Education and Training Scheme (MRCAETS), including:

(i) Interpret and apply VCES and MRCAETS legislation and policy guidelines, exercising delegations appropriate to the APS5 level
(ii) Identification of cases requiring referral to the Education Schemes Boards.
(iii) Approve payment of Education Allowances, Additional Tuition, and other assistance including payment of accounts.
(iv) Assist with the identification, investigation and preparation of submissions for the recovery of payments made in excess of entitlements.
(v) Advise parents, trustees and students on all aspects of the Scheme.

• Coordination of the Education Scheme Boards and Long Tan Bursary:

(i) Arrange meetings and functions.
(ii) Prepare agendas and minutes.

• Advise the Board on technical aspects of the Scheme and regarding student performance as requested, and initiate Board involvement in guidance and counselling where necessary.
• Assist with the preparation of statistical information, estimates of expenditure and other reports as required.
• Participate in Outreach activities and Country Visits in accordance with the Schemes as required.
