Primary objective
Provide professional and technical financial analysis and accounting advice to the Chief Financial Officer and agency staff in order
to meet statutory and Northern Territory Government financial reporting obligations.
Context statement
The Team Leader will work in a team environment supporting the Manager of Financial Accounting; this position manages the
Financial Accounting Team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Development and implement policies and procedures associated with financial management, in accordance with statutory
requirements and Northern Territory Government (NTG) reporting guidelines.
2. Provide professional and technical advice to agency staff in order to meet statutory reporting obligations and achieve NTG
and agency outcomes.
3. Undertake comprehensive analysis of financial performance through interrogation of accounting data, in order to predict and
advice on expected agency performance outcomes.
4. Develop and maintain strong relationships with agency staff and other stakeholders in relation to financial accounting policy
matters.
5. Manage a team providing financial accounting and compliance services.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in the delivery of high level financial accounting advice in accordance with statutory obligations and
reporting requirements.
2. Demonstrated experience in the development of annual financial reports in accordance with statutory requirements.
3. Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to develop and present complex information in a clear and concise
manner, orally and in various written formats.
4. Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and meet competing demands, delivering quality outcomes in a high pressured work
environment.
5. Well-developed analytical, research and interpretative skills in order to identify practical, innovative solutions to complex
problems.
6. High-level competency in the use of office automation software including accounting packages and Microsoft Excel.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance or business together with membership of a relevant professional organisation.
2. An understanding of how financial issues impact on service delivery of the Territory Families, Housing and Communities.
3. Knowledge of the current budget and financial management cycles, financial legislation, accounting standards and systems
that impact on current Public Sector accounting.
