If so, we have the opportunity for you to join us a QA Tester. Here you will be part of a central team which monitors accessibility compliance and provides support for teams in the form of assistive technology testing and accessibility evaluations.
You’ll be joining Department for Work & Pensions which is one of the biggest government departments and provides essential services for many citizens. To make sure we are delivering services which can be used by everybody, we need to test them regularly to make sure they meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 and the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Job description
As a QA Tester in the Accessibility Testing Team you will:
- Be responsible for testing digital services, websites and documents for compliance with the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.
- Conduct manual testing against the A and AA criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 and assistive technology testing using screen-readers, screen magnifiers and voice recognition software.
- Define test scopes and user flows to maximise test coverage.
- Help compile evaluation reports and communicate findings and recommendations to service teams.
- Help to improve documentation, evidence and processes to support and educate teams when building accessible digital products.
- Review requirements and specifications to define test conditions and scope.
- Identify issues and risks and be able to analyse and report test activities and results.
- Identify usability issues and WCAG failures, and work with stakeholders to coordinate the fixing of accessibility issues.
- Design and execute non-functional test cases for accessibility compliance using a variety of assistive technologies.

Salary Information
Salary for this role is from £31,989 (Band min) to £34,285 (Band max).
Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.
Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.
Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.
This role will be based in Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield corporate hub locations.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
