About the job
We recognise the challenges that people with (multiple) protected characteristics may experience on the job market and in their career progression. We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities. We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as possible, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities, people with a disability, and people with gender diverse identities.
Do you have excellent numeracy skills and a high attention to detail?
Are you seeking an opportunity that provides future career progression within the Finance Profession?
If so, we are looking for ambitious individuals to join our Passenger Service Finance teams, and we would love to hear from you!
Rail Passenger Services have three fantastic development opportunities to provide day-to-day support with core financial activities and processes. You will gain valuable and rewarding experience in a commercial environment, working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels across the Department and the Rail Industry.
You will have the opportunity to express your preference of role during the process.
In these varied and interesting roles, you will develop a detailed understanding of the objectives, financial transactions and business areas of Passenger Services. You will apply this knowledge to your expertise in financial processes to produce high quality financial reports, insightful analysis, budget forecasts and ensure operations are able to respond to different needs while maintaining a level of commonality through standard guidelines, frameworks, processes and tools.
You will also support our wider finance team pulling together and reporting on the overall financial position, provide prompt input to Freedom of Information requests (FOIs) and Parliamentary Questions (PQs), and ensure the smooth process of periodic business critical Train Operating Company (TOC) payments.
In taking on one of these roles, you will be required to undertake a Finance level 7 professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) either via an apprenticeship or supported self-study. An apprenticeship is a great way for you to combine theoretical learning with practical skills building ‘on-the-job’ and the department will also support you with allowing you dedicated time each week to focus on your apprenticeship studies, but self-study could be considered where an apprenticeship is not appropriate.
Typical duties and responsibilities within these roles could include:
Please see the attached role profile for individual role responsibilities.
You will have the option to be based in our London office attracting the London salary, or Leeds or Birmingham attracting the National salary. Occasional travel to attend meetings or team events in our London office will be required.
About You
You will be highly numerate, with a high attention to detail and accuracy to produce quality information and forecasts. You will be proficient with Microsoft Office Excel, and have the capability to analyse and interpret financial data and confidently produce financial reports/dashboards.
You will display excellent interpersonal skills to build positive relationships at all levels within and outside of the Department.
You will be proactive, with excellent planning and organisation skills, work well independently and as part of a team to deliver quality outputs and balance competing priorities.
OR
You will need to provide evidence that you meet this criteria during the application process.
We’ll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:
Benefits
