This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about leading and shaping early talent across the Department for Transport.

The Department for Transport is made up of the central Department (DfTc) and four Executive Agencies – the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA); the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA); the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA); and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). We work with our agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and good travelling around the country; keeping the UK on the move.

The DfT Talent and Apprenticeships Team is part of the DfT HR team in the Corporate Delivery Group (CDG) which has approximately 300 staff. CDG support the operational business, operating a Group Model with key policies being developed by a central team on behalf of the core Department and its Agencies. Talent and Apprenticeships are key functions which enable the department to deliver its challenging agenda and build skills for now and in the future.

As the successful candidate, you will be involved in running programmes that help people build employability skills by holding workshops on topics such as application writing, interview and presentation skills. Being a team player, you will also support your colleagues with their roles such as conducting ID verification checks for applicants, uploading sift and interview results and assisting with email inbox queries.

This role sits within a small but supportive team that endeavours to help each other out when needed. There is opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in this role and you are encouraged to do so when possible. This fast paced environment requires you to be reactive to changing situations and have the ability to prioritise conflicting demands, should they arise.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Leading on the delivery of multiple programmes of work and providing support across the Early Talent & Apprenticeship Team; helping to support the diversification of early talent pipelines and supporting wider Government strategies around apprenticeship targets, Places for Growth and the Levelling-up agenda.

• Supporting the implementation of DfTc’s Apprenticeship & Outreach Strategy by supporting the delivery of rolling, cohort-based recruitment campaigns. This includes leading on operational elements of the volume campaign project plan; ensuring key milestones are met and smooth delivery of the end-to-end recruitment through to onboarding and induction.

• Monitoring recruitment activity through our Applicant Tracking System (ATS), including providing regular updates on application numbers and uploading sift / interview results.

• Leading on candidate communications including during interview / assessment centres, throughout pre-employment checks and timetabling a comprehensive programme of cohort-based induction activity in close partnership with SMEs.

• Leading the end-to-end programme delivery and continuous improvement of key, targeted outreach internship programmes including Movement to Work (MtW) and the Autism Exchange Programme (AEP).

• Designing, coordinating and delivering a comprehensive programme of events and learning activities to internship participants to enhance and complement the work-experience provided at a business level. This includes confidently presenting engaging learning events to interns and apprentices on a regular basis.

• Acting as the HR point of contact for interns and line-managers for the duration of the programme offer; providing HR advice (including casework), signposting and practical support where possible and escalating to senior managers or SMEs as appropriate.

• Acting as the Management Information (MI) Lead across the Apprenticeship & Internship portfolio; including ensuring learning provider MI is up to date, monitoring progress against departmental targets and providing quarterly updates to Cabinet Office on current numbers and projected starts.

• Monitoring a team inbox including answering queries from apprentices, interns and line managers.

About You

We are looking for someone who has exceptional communication skills and can express themselves in a confident and concise manner with colleagues at all levels. You will represent the Agency in a professional and clear manner, ensuring key messages are delivered to both internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.

As the face of the team, you will be confident in providing excellent customer service and love to go the extra mile to ensure you give a first-class service.

You would be described as a diligent person, happy to concentrate on your work and do a thorough job even when under pressure. You are ready to react quickly and will be a focused and calm person who can get the job done regardless of the environment you are in.

You must hold a CIPD qualification or have the willingness to work towards gaining a CIPD qualification in post.

Additional Info

You may be required to travel to other DfT offices once a month. This is likely to involve overnight stays.
