We welcome flexible working and are open to a blended approach of working from home and in an office.

The location for these roles are flexible and and you can be based at our Defra Digital Hubs Bristol, Reading, Warrington and York. Occasional travel to our Weybridge site will be required.

Please be aware that space within the London office is restricted and it may not be possible to be based in this location.

We are currently going through a radical digital transformation and, whilst we are already well underway on this journey, we are still looking to grow our software development function and are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) Senior Software Developer.

You will be working on a number of meaningful projects in a challenging environment which continues to evolve as an exemplar in the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Developer profession.

You will play an important part in building a digital future for Defra and our customers. This means big changes to how our services and technologies are designed and delivered.

• Our software development function is distributed around the country, but you will be co-located with a specific team in a single location

What we’re looking for in this role

• Service support – knowledge and experience of investigating and resolving issues in complex laboratory information management systems.

• Systems design – ability to translate user requirements into viable system designs.

• Data design – understanding of the best approaches for handling complex, highly sensitive data in a controlled process environment.

• Programming – background in building software using industry best practice and a desire to specialise in customising the ThermoFisher SampleManager laboratory information management system using VGL and C#.NET.

• Data and systems integration – experience of integrating complex systems using a variety of approaches and data sources.
