Principal Software Engineer

The Networking Engineering team delivers next-generation platforms, application enhancements and new products for a changing world. Working at the cutting edge, we design and develop network software for data center platforms, applications and diagnostics — all with the most advanced technologies, tools, software engineering methodologies and the collaboration of internal and external partners. Focused on the needs of our customers within the changing world of technology, we ensure all software and hardware products are interoperable and compatible with network standards.

What you’ll achieve
As a Software Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for developing sophisticated systems and software based on the customer’s business goals, needs and general business environment creating software solutions.

You will:

• Design and develop for Dell’s entire portfolio of data center and campus networking switches
• Take part in the full software development life cycle including development, test, continuous delivery and support
• Develop & integrate networking stack with Linux kernel and switching ASICs
• Be an active member of an agile team, collaboratively realizing features through development, test and delivery
• Enthusiastically represent Dell in technical forums as part of Open Source communities, Deliver high quality code to Enterprise customers and to the Open Source community

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field, 8+ years of in-depth experience in developing software for enterprise grade infrastructure (networking, storage etc), Proficiency in C/C++ programming and Python/Golang is highly required
• Solid understanding of low-level network architecture and IP networking protocols, familiar with large scale datacenter architecture and networking protocols such as BGP/IP Multicast/SRv6 etc.
• Motivated individual with curiosity to solve scaling, complex and challenging problems, agility to adapt to technologies and processes quickly.

Desirable Requirements

• Development experience in open source SONiC/FRR Community
• Experience with overlay networking technologies like VxLAN, DCI interconnect, EVPN, Hands on experience with use of Broadcom SDK, Trident family architecture
