• Based at our Melbourne Burwood or Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus
• Full-time (36.75 hours per week), fixed term to November 2022
• HEW 8 $100,289+ 17% Superannuation

Working as part of Deakin’s Partnering and Performance team within the Chief Financial Officer portfolio, the primary responsibility of the Management Accountant is to deliver the annual budget and forecast submissions, staff management plans, monthly reporting, reconciliations, analysis and interpretation of variances, completion of financial reports and advice on forecast and budget management.

Responsible for a designated client group, you will be an expert communicator with the ability to manage a range of stakeholder relationships. Providing insights to support your clients’ decision making, your confident and credible style will immediately position you as a trusted Finance Partner. Highly analytical and outcome focused, you will have a keen eye for the improvement of processes and will be adept in working on both an autonomous basis and in collaboration with team members and other colleagues as required. Sound judgement and strong decision-making capabilities are also key characteristics to ensure your success within this pivotal role.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Actively participate and contribute to successful delivery of tailored finance business services including analysis, reporting and advice. Embrace and uphold the customer engagement model ensuring excellent customer service and close engagement to deliver high quality financial support and services.
• Undertake financial planning and analysis for the designated area, primarily the development of the annual budget and forecasts along with the completion of required financial statements, tables and supporting summaries for review by the Portfolio leadership team for presentation to the CFO.
• Monitor, interpret and report on financial performance within the areas of responsibilities (including monthly reports, staff management plan, identifying and analysing variances as well as the provision of recommendations to improve financial performance) for review and consideration by the Senior Finance Partner.
• Provide a quality client service to identified areas through ensuring that all financial transactions are administered accurately, promptly and fully reconciled.
• Utilise available finance expertise from within the specialised finance service offerings of the CFO Portfolio to deliver sound, pragmatic and executable financial and commercial recommendations and solutions.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of improved financial reporting and procedures, including the identification and utilisation of appropriate and high quality financial and non-financial data to complete routine and ad hoc external and internal reporting and information requests.

To be successful, you’ll have:

• Post graduate qualifications, or progress towards, in accounting, finance or other similar discipline and extensive relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant accounting experience and/or education.
• Certified Practising Accountant / Chartered Accountant (or studying towards completion).
• Previous experience at a senior administrative level in financial administration and related activities, preferably in a university or other large organisation with complex administrative structures, policies and procedures.
• Relevant experience in the preparation and monitoring of complex budgets and performance reports.
• Keen eye for the continuous improvement of processes; proactively improves the efficiency and quality of existing materials processes and systems.
• High level analysis and problem-solving abilities; sources relevant information, identifies problems and offers sustainable practical solutions.
• Strong focus on service culture; considers others’ perspectives in making decisions and providing advice, strives to exceed expectations.
