Role Purpose

The Python Software Engineer is responsible for developing software solutions of a diverse nature and broad scope; for designing, developing, troubleshooting, debugging, and supporting software programs and databases; and for developing, applying, documenting, and maintaining quality standards for software projects and programs. In developing manufacturing solutions, the Software Development Engineer employs agile techniques to ensure software solutions are consistent with good manufacturing principles.

Essential Skills & Requirements

Full-stack capability required

Foundation in Python plus two other languages

Critical skills: Must be highly proficient in Python, MySQL, Django, Git

Desired skills: HTML, JS, Ansible, React, jQuery, Celery, Ubuntu, CodeShip, wxPython, PyCharm, Redis, Memcached, DRF, understanding of C#

Strong knowledge and understanding of object-oriented programming principles

Aptitude to develop proficiency in different programming languages as needed

Strong understanding of SQL and database principles (including database normalization)

Strong understanding of HTML/JS/CSS and other web-based programming principles

Data representation and user interface design

Ability to employ good software development principles including the software development life cycle

Network infrastructure

Software deployment

Basic trouble shooting of desktop and server problems

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent experience and certifications, and at least 1 year of experience working in related fields

Ability to communicate at all levels, from front-line operator to senior management, in support of DevOps

Ability to provide on-site emergency support to manufacturing

Limited travel may be required

Remote work may be considered, up to70%; routine days in the office will be required each week

Key Activities

Consult with internal customers to determine project requirements, scope and priorities

Collaborate with other team members to provide solutions

Utilize industry standard and leveraged solutions consistent with De La Rue’s architecture when possible

Research, design, and engineer computer software solutions using principles of computer science, engineering and mathematical analysis

Evaluate specifications from business, information, and production systems to develop database architecture, software, interface, and reports

Code, test, and implement software according to determined specifications and industry and De La Rue standard procedures

Document software and requirements

Enhance existing applications to meet business needs and prioritize requests according business direction

Database administration

Continuous improvement and process engineering and data analysis projects as needed
