Anglo American Steelmaking Coal

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description
-The primary purpose of the Commercial Finance Specialist is the provision of meaningful information analysis to assist site management to make valued based decisions to improve business performance. Reporting to the Business Performance Superintendent, you will be responsible for assisting with the month end, forecasting, annual business plan and capital management processes.

In the role, you will drive site cost management, variance analysis and reporting, as well as liaising with our Brisbane Corporate Office in regard to accounting and related issues. Our ideal candidate will utilise their extensive knowledge and understanding of management accounting principles to deliver on cost analysis and information for both operational and capital expenditure.

This role provides the opportunity to demonstrate highly developed interpersonal skills to deliver financial information to non-financial audiences. With a focus on stakeholder engagement, the Commercial Finance Specialist will have strong commercial acumen and well-developed analytical problem solving skills. You will also hold relevant tertiary qualifications in business and/or commerce and have a minimum of five years’ commercial experience in a similar role.

Qualifications
-You will be tertiary qualified in Accounting, Finance or related discipline and have demonstrated experience in operating in a similar role within the mining industry or have a willingness to adapt. Additional qualifications such as CA, CPA, CFA or MBA would be viewed favourably however not mandatory.

You will bring with you the ability to apply analytical and quantitative skills in a complex environment. Advanced MS Excel skills is essential as is previous experience extracting financial and KPI data from SAP systems
