Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for the leadership of each
team of production shift employees. The objective of each team of production shift employees is to make
scheduled production while meeting the required safety, quality, environmental, and cost targets.
The Production Supervisor could be responsible for the activities of 19 or more personnel working on a
continuous schedule of 8.5 hour shift in a five (5) day work week or 12 hour shifts in a seven (7) day work
week (continental rotation). Reporting to the Production Supervisor are Colourmaker(s), Chemical Relief
Operator(s), Line Operators, Packer(s) and Effluent Operator(s). When on shift the Production Supervisor
also has administrative responsibility for Maintenance Mechanic(s), Janitor(s), Shipper(s), Quality Control
Lead Hand(s) and technician(s).
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
The specific responsibilities of the Production Supervisor, while not limited to, include:
Liaise with the Process Supervisor, the Maintenance Supervisor and the Quality Control Superintendent, the Production Supervisor is responsible for implementation of the schedule, the maintenance (on shift) coordination and the ongoing quality
Manage and direct a shift of production operators who are members of Teamsters Local 1979, and who are partly managed by the terms of the Collective Agreement entered into between the Company and its employees
Ensure that all his/her team members are trained, and that adequate backup is available to operate all functions
Ensure that the team members are trained in all safety, production, and quality procedures, and that documentation of that training is held in the document control files
Responsible for the recognition of good performance and to make recommendations regarding the recognition process
Administration of disciplinary measures to team members, in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement, in the event of poor performance. Such measures may include counseling, warnings and/or suspensions
Have a working knowledge of health and safety, environmental legislation, including emergency response; and working knowledge of the ISO 9001, 14001 Quality System, relevant to DCL
Conduct safety and environmental inspections
Conduct health and safety shift meetings and train team members may be required from time to time
Manage the overall attendance and timekeeping for all team members
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the Production Manager
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Minimum community college diploma or extensive in-house experience and be willing to pursue further education and training
Exceptional leadership, motivational, organizational, problem -solving and conflict resolution abilities
Experience in chemical/batch manufacturing industry preferred
Valid First Aid and CPR certifications
Ability to multi-task
In-depth knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation, including emergency response and ISO 9001 and 14001 quality systems
Exceptional communication skills
Advance technical aptitude and understanding of process technology
WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequently working in plant conditions. Personal protective equipment required, e.g., coverall, gloves, eyeglasses, bump cap etc. Clothes likely to be soiled by pigment. Working area not air-conditioned but heated in winter. Exposure to dust likely. Noise generating equipment in working area. Positions involves frequent standing and walking.
