Arriva UK Trains Bid Team is a multi-disciplinary team made up of highly specialised professionals and our priority is, through collaborative working, to submit compelling and high quality bids to secure new franchises as well as retaining existing franchises in the UK and across Europe.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Finance Team for a talented and creative Financial Modeller and we are seeking applications in consideration for this role. This is a chance to work with a mature and complex modelling suite in an environment where technical innovation is encouraged.

The candidate is expected to be able to build bid financial and operational models and populate / interrogate the data to go into such models. The candidate must also be in a position to manage the Modelling resources available in the bid team and as a coach / mentor to more junior resources and the Business Analysts providing modelling advice where applicable.

This role is full time, permanent and is based in London.

Supporting the Head of Financial Modelling during a bid. This will include:

Being responsible for ensuring high quality and error free submissions to the main contracting bodies (e.g. DfT) of submission models, templates and documentation

Being responsible for producing outputs for internal governance and review from the modelling suite

Providing timely advice to the Head of Financial Modelling keeping them informed of key submission issues related to modelling

Providing advice to the Head of Financial Modelling during contractual negotiations through the understanding of the financial impact of proposed changes into the contractual models

Task managing other junior modelling resources available to the Bid Team

Proactively suggesting improvements to develop the bid modelling suite

Supporting the wider bid team and other parts of the Arriva group with their financial and operational modelling requirements

Reviewing of internal and third-party financial and operational models using specialist tools

Travelling as needed to deliver Arriva critical work

Sharing and building team knowledge capital

Experience of building integrated 3 statement models in Excel from scratch, including accounting adjustments (e.g. IFRS 16) and corporation/deferred tax

Experience of managing junior modelling resources in complex environments and under tight deadlines

Model audit or review experience

Expert knowledge of MS Excel and VBA

Ability to work to tight deadlines and in a high pressure environment

Good written and communication skills

Excellent problem solving skills

Desire to investigate new technologies and integrate them into the Modelling Suite

Accounting/finance qualifications (e.g. CIMA / ACCA / ACA / CFA etc.) is highly desirable

Experience of designing dashboards and presenting financial / operational data to others in intuitive ways. Experience of Tableau is desirable.

Experience of PowerQuery is desirable
