The Client

Our client is a government organisation that is in the middle of transformative change. It is growing in staff, funding and responsibilities. They have beautiful offices in Pyrmont and pride themselves on being a great place to work.

They are in the market for a dynamic Financial Controller who has a curious mind and is tech forward and loves to use technology to provide a best practice finance function.

It is critical that you are tech savvy and gets involved in the finance tech stack to ensure we are using our systems to their full potential.

The role

The Financial Controller will have the following broad remit:

Financial leadership

• Create and maintain a finance roadmap – a strategy and vision for the finance function to ensure it remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the organisation
• Take ownership of all finance related IT infrastructure and business processes to ensure they are fit for purpose, efficient & cost effective
• Represent finance on various cross functional project teams to ensure financial considerations and impacts are assessed on all internal projects
• Champion continuous improvement across all finance IT platforms and business processes
• Lead the finance team, manage and mentor staff

Management ing

• Ensure the organisation’s budgeting and forecasting processes are accurate, timely and effective in providing valuable information to the business for decision making
• Challenge the status quo by presenting information with insightful analysis to various internal stakeholders

Financial control & compliance

• Ensure the organisation complies with all Statutory, Government, Board, Audit & Risk Committee and ANAO audit requirements
• Implement and maintain internal control systems to increase accountability for all expenses including travel and other expenses, including related policies and frameworks (cab charge, credit cards)
• Maintain appropriate internal controls fit for purpose for the organisation, taking into consideration user experience
• Management & ing of capital expenditure 

Cashflow management

• Manage and review short-term and long-term cashflow needs, and ensure excess funds are invested in accordance with group treasury policies

Technology leadership

• Take ownership and responsibility of the financial systems and matching business processes of the organisation
• Ensure the user experience is front of mind in all technology decisions (not just from a finance perspective but from a whole of business perspective)

Other

• Manage the insurance renewals process of the organisation and any claims processes
• Adhoc tasks as requested by Snr Management

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

• Degree qualified in accounting, finance or a business related field
•  CA or CPA qualified (or international equivalent)
• 10+ years experience gained in a similar senior finance role, including people management responsibility
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of regulations and best practice relating to financial accounting and management
• True business partnering mindset, with experience in providing expert analysis, insight and advice to senior management on all financial matters
• A curious mind and co-operative engagement style
• Technology forward mindset, using the latest systems and processes to deliver an efficient finance function
• Great communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

Desired:

• Experience in liaising with government statutory authorities and other agencies
• Technology One systems experience
