The opportunity
As we forge ahead in our growth-phase driven by consumer demand, we are excited for our multiple upcoming projects including the BRCGS project. If you are looking to build a career in quality assurance, this is a fantastic opportunity to build a solid foundation for the required skills.
We are looking for a sharp and reliable Quality Assurance Assistant to join our production facility in Richmond on a temporary-contract basis. This will be an 8-12-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension/permanency. This is a full-time position (8-hour shift) with regular working hours from 12 pm – 8 pm to cover morning as well as afternoon shift (8 am start initially for training purposes and some flexibility expected with the shift timings). The pay range for this role would be $18-$20.
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Technician, you would provide a high-level administrative, clerical and training support. Responsibilities include:
· Assisting in daily and weekly QA paperwork and ensuring data is up-to-date (computerized as well as physical records)
· Performing daily product review (sensory evaluation, in-house moisture analysis) to ensure finished goods are compliant with company and customer standards
· Assisting in process/food safety non-conformance and customer complaint investigation and corrective actions
· Collecting and sending food and environmental samples to third party lab for analysis, as well as tracking and maintain all testing results
· Conducting periodic verification of thermometer and scale function
· Facilitating QA/food safety training to operations employees as needed
· Other QA-related tasks as assigned
About you
This role would be suitable for a student looking to gain exposure through a co-op program or someone who has recently gradated and looking build experience in this field or a career in manufacturing sector.
A post-secondary education in food science, biology, chemistry or related science discipline would be highly regarded. If not a co-op student, then some experience in a food manufacturing/ pharmaceutical environment would be preferred; along with working knowledge of food safety programs (HACCP and GFSI), GMP programs and Quality Systems. Strong computer skills are a must-have and experience in SAP is an asset.
In addition to the above, you are able to build rapport easily. Whether it is writing a non-conformance report or liaising with various stakeholders to get the required information, your strong communication and interpersonal skills enable you to do it confidently. An eye for detail and strong organizational skills help you stay on top of things; while your analytical and problem-solving skills would set you up for success in this role!
