Job Summary
Dalhousie’s Department of Economics offers a full slate of undergraduate and graduate programs, including Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, Master of Arts, Master of Development Economics, and PhD. The Department of Economics, in the Faculty of Science, teaches students to better understand society’s current economic challenges and various policy tools so that they can contribute to the society as professional economists or as researchers. ing to the Department Administrator, the Clerk provides administrative support to the department.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to a wide variety of inquiries from faculty, staff, prospective and registered students as well as visitors to the university and various business contacts.
Maintain smooth operations of the office; keep department stocked and organized with stationery supplies, order office equipment, and furniture; maintain bulletin boards, email distribution lists, sort and distribute mail, arrange maintenance, etc.
Assist the Department Administrator and faculty members with the coordination of the reappointment, tenure and promotion process. Collect and organize documents, and upload files to OneDrive and once ready share with the Dean’s office. Prepare letters and send to referees.
Update departmental website and assist faculty members with the development of personal web pages on Dalhousie’s website. Participates in website related projects.
Assist in the preparation and electronic distribution of the semi-annual department newsletter Econ Matters. This includes writing original content for the news article posts, organizing the newsletter items, and corresponding with alumni and faculty members to obtain their personal written profile for the newsletter.
Coordinate weekly seminars by corresponding with guest speakers, arranging hotel accommodations, booking meeting space, assisting with AV requirements, and ordering catering.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Business/Office Administration program, with approximately two to three years’ related experience in an academic environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Word, and Excel), communication, and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential as well as the ability to work independently.
Assets
Data entry experience.
Experience using Banner.
