Dairy Farmers of America Hiring for Logistics Manager at Salt Lake City, UT Full Time

General Purpose:

Oversee dispatch operations to optimize logistics planning and transportation operations for DFA members’ milk to market for assigned milk marketing area.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage adequate milk supply for customer needs and guide team in determining appropriate milk loads for each customer.
• Manage weekly master schedule preparations to balance member and customer needs with planned load efficiency and profitability.
• Coordinate efforts with management team to secure additional milk when deficits exist and determine alternative uses for excess milk.
• Oversee master schedule execution and make necessary adjustments based on member farms’ and customers’ needs.
• Manage communications with members, customers, contract haulers, field staff, and DFA management, especially concerning critical changes.
• Manage daily pickup reconciliations and receipts with customers, haulers, and members.
• Investigate and resolve escalated issues or problems expeditiously.
• Develop and maintain customer relationships at plant level and become familiar with their operations to ensure optimal service.
• Provide leadership with status of milk transport challenges, including rejected loads, and coordinate resolution.
• Work with staff to review and certify monthly freight charges and credits are applied appropriately to members and customers.
• Ensure member milk is qualified as required by Federal Milk Marketing Order to ensure maximum member return.
• Establish policy, procedures and standard operating policies (SOP) for logistics activities.
• Maintain contract hauler pool for consistent pickup and delivery and provide service for additional loads and special or emergency situations.
• Create employee schedules and approve timecards and time requests through company systems.
• Manage assigned employees, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and performance management. Maintain and promote positive employee relations in work environment.
• Promote active safety culture among company and contract haulers by adherence to safety procedures, laws, and company policy.
• Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with producers, customers, and regulatory personnel.
• Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrive.
• Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality and sanitation requirements.
• Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion and sound judgment.
• Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety and GMP policies and procedures and any nonconformity.
• Attend required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), Safe Quality Food (SQF), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO).
• Ensure availability to respond to emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (i.e. nights, weekends, or holidays).

Requirements:

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and 6 years of logistics or dispatching experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience

OR

• Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and 2 years of logistics or dispatching experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience
• Prefer experience utilizing SAP
• Certification and/or License
  • May be required to obtain and maintain other certifications and/or licenses in the future

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of company computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements, rules, and regulations (DOT, GMP, PMO, USDA, OSHA, and HACCP)
