The School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) was formed in 2018 and brings together Curtin’s core capabilities across electrical engineering, computing, physics and mathematics, to better understand and advance our data-driven world.

EECMS teaches practically oriented undergraduate courses that are highly regarded by industry and has a vibrant research culture. In particular it is home to a number of research institutes and centres including the Curtin Institute of Computation, the Curtin Institute for Radio Astronomy, the Curtin-led ARC Industrial Training Centre for Transforming Maintenance through Data Science, the Curtin-CISCO Centre for Networks and the Curtin-Optus Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence, all of which have a requirement for engaging with computing researchers.

Computing

As the IT industry changes, product-specific skills can quickly become obsolete. The focus of our computing courses is to convey fundamental knowledge and skills to our students, to help them become life-long learners and build sustainable careers.

Our courses are based on the curricula recommendations of two respected professional IT associations: IEEE Computer Society and the Association for Computing Machinery. The courses are developed in consultation with an industry advisory board representing the IT industry, and are accredited by the Australian Computer Society.

These courses are backed by our strong research capabilities across artificial intelligence, cyber security, large-scale pattern recognition, robotics and automation, big data and software engineering.

Your new role

Two exciting and rare opportunities exist for enthusiastic and passionate academics that are developing their research outputs to join the Computing team within EECMS. We are looking to recruit emerging academics that have the drive and ambition to contribute to the success of the school. We are expanding our presence, particularly in computing, across our and partner international campuses, so occasional international travel may be required.

We are interested to receive applications from candidates who pose demonstrated capacity within industry led research and engagement, with the ability to secure sustained research funding and have demonstrated excellence in innovative and future forward teaching and learning.

Responsibilities include:

• Actively seek opportunities for competitive research grants and/or fellowships.
• Publish/exhibit in high quality refereed journals/outlets in manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
• Deliver high quality and innovative teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students across a range of modes and levels.
• Conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or studio sessions as appropriate, which stimulate and foster student learning and engagement.
• Develop pedagogically innovative curriculum that incorporates real-world relevance.
• Undertake course coordination as required.
• Supervise honours students or postgraduate students.
• Contribute to academic service, engagement and the management and collegiality within the University.
• Participate in and provide leadership in external activities and community engagement.
• Proactive participation in and development of industry engagement and work integrated learning activities

Essential Criteria:

• A PhD or equivalent in related discipline.
• A developing record of research outputs/creative works in high quality refereed academic journals/outlets consistent with the discipline.
• Evidence of a developing national reputation and growing international profile, which may include a record of obtaining research income, including nationally competitive research grants and/or fellowships.
• Proven high level teaching skills with a demonstrated reflective approach to teaching.
• A demonstrated contribution to scholarship in teaching and experience in curriculum development and unit/course coordination.
