• Working in collaboration with the Principal Software Development Leads and their teams to ensure that the group is aligned to achieve the required milestones and objectives of the projects undertaken.
• Working in collaboration and alignment with Global Engineering and Global Project teams, provide local direction and leadership to achieve the required milestones and objectives of the projects undertaken.
• Review resource plans to ensure they are appropriate across multiple projects within the group.
• Responsible for assigning roles, responsibilities and the day to day management of Principal Software Development Leads. Coach and mentor team members to continually improve their performance.
• Oversee recruitment and performance reviews (mid-year and annual), timesheet and holiday approval.
• Oversee and approve salary reviews, award spot bonuses and recognition awards and promotion for team members.
• Deputise for the Head of Device Software Development as required including delegated authority; and signing off financial documents in accordance with the company policies.
• Collaborate and share technical expertise within the department and with other departments as required. Encourage cross-functional working with other departments.
• Analyse and contribute to system and subsystem requirements specifications and design definitions.
• Ensure that design, development and test of applications and programs support the company’s products.
• Ensure that design, development and test of software programs follow established quality standards and in accordance with CTS engineering procedures including coding, unit testing and software configuration control.
• Complete high and low level detailed software design specifications, storyboards and interface specifications.
• Provide support of products through conception to product delivery including problem solving, defect maintenance and support to customer services.
• Champion the application of software best practices such as Continuous Integration, Test Driven Development, SOLID and Clean Code principles.
• Prepare reports, manuals, procedures and status reports including ability to create and review reports, technical documents, contracts and proposals..
• Supports the bids, proposals and customer variation requests.
• Keep abreast of improvements and developments within software engineering.
• Comply with Cubic’s values and adherence to all company policy and procedures. In particular comply with the code of conduct, quality, security and occupational health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Support Global Engineering and Improvement initiatives.
• In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them.

• A proven track record of leading teams and projects successfully to meet required milestones and objectives including setting objectives, performance management, development, and cost controls.
• Result orientated and capable of delegating responsibility to Principal Software Development Leads to lead a project including developing concepts, objectives, resource requirements and cost controls.
• An experienced software engineer with a proven track record of specification, design and development of software.
• Working knowledge of agile ad lean processes.
• Demonstrates an up to date knowledge of software engineering programming languages and technologies.
• Effective decision maker with the ability to consider the impact and take accountability for decisions made.
• Proven track record of problem solving and effective resolution. With the ability to define test schedules and data requirements.
• Ability to prepare reports, manuals, procedures and status reports.

• Previous working knowledge of Cubic and associated products.
• Scrum experience.

• Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience, or a combination of both.
