Your role will be within a team who work on a wide range of exciting Internet of Things projects that require cutting edge embedded development to achieve real world impact with strong industry engagement. Our Distributed Sensing Systems Group’s R&D offerings are highly sought after both domestically and internationally, with the unique challenges we can address often allowing our staff to travel to exciting locations across Australia and abroad. You will be a critical team member assisting experienced engineers and researchers to develop and deliver new platform IP and cutting-edge research across embedded devices through to IoT cloud services.

Your duties will include:

• Implementing novel Platform IP for resource constrained embedded (IoT) devices using embedded RTOS (Zephyr Project)
• Implementation AI/ML algorithms for embedded devices designed by researchers
• R&D for delivering commercial and internal cross-disciplinary projects with a strong focus on delivering industry impact
• Software development across a variety of devices and platforms (from embedded, smartphone, edge/gateway, cloud)
• Make significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of research or technological results and collaborate on drafting presentations to, and/or detailed written reports for, clients and the scientific and/or technology community.
• Under general direction participate in planning projects and accept responsibility for the scheduling and completion of major parts of projects, including allocating and directing tasks where appropriate.
• Provide coaching, on-the-job training and instruction to colleagues, on activities pertaining to the immediate work area and responsibilities as required.

Salary: AU$ $87,068 to AU$ $98,504 pa (pro-rata for part-time) + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Essential:
Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.

• Relevant Bachelors/Master’s Degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Engineering (Electronic, Electrical, Mechatronic, Software) or InfoTech (Computer Science)
• Demonstrated experience in developing RTOS applications (e.g. Zephyr Project) for low power embedded devices (e.g. using ARM Cortex M4 or similar)
• Demonstrated experience with implementation and deployment of low-power applications employing wireless communications (e.g. BLE, 802.15.4, LoRa/LoRaWAN).
• Software development practices (e.g. versioning control, GIT Flow) and debugging experience for embedded devices.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research project teams, and carry out tasks under general direction from Scientific Researchers.

Desirable:

• Ability to understand and/or design circuits and/or PCB (e.g. Altium experience)
• Proficiency in development of applications for smartphone operating systems (Android, iOS).
• Experience with field-testing of IT systems (linux-based PCs, raspberry pi, routers etc), including user studies, field experiments, analysis of field trial data, and in-situ debugging.
• Ability to utilise CAD to design small housings, assembly parts (e.g. SolidWorks)

Eligibility
