Logistics Accountant

The Logistics Accountant is responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain the company’s general ledger.

Working under the direction of the Controller, the Logistics Accountant’s work includes ensuring accurate recording of revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities of the company.

The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter with review and proofing experience. The candidate would also be responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and assisting with the company’s annual audit.

Responsibilities :

• Maintain an organized set of detailed records and files to document financial transactions.
• Resolve complex accounting issues or assist other personnel in resolving financial issues.
• Review the general ledger on a monthly basis to ensure the accuracy of postings.
• Calculate accruals to determine the proper recording of expenses.
• Prepare journal entries and recurring entries.
• Perform account reconciliations to substantiate account balances.
• Prepare sales tax s and assist with any payroll ing.
• Assist in the production of financial s involving the company’s accounts for monthly meetings.
• Coordinate monthly and annual closing activities.
• Maintain fixed assets schedules and depreciation calculations.
• Assist in the production of annual financial statements and ad hoc financial s.
• Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Experience :

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting.
• At least three to five years of experience in the area of monthly general ledger cut-off and financial statement preparation, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, or the equivalent.
• Experience working with an automated financial management system. Public accounting experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Ability to assist in the development of financial policies and procedures.
• Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
• Ability to investigate and analyze data to understand past practices.
• Knowledge of operating budget concepts.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate s in a timely fashion.
• Knowledge of policies and practices associated with payroll and payroll tax ing.
• Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of intercompany transactions and consolidated ing.
• Knowledge of and ability to use a personal computer and software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Ability to effectively use an automated financial management system. Knowledge of McLeod is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed records.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.
• Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
