Craigdarroch Castle is a National Historic Site located in Victoria British Columbia. This house museum welcomes 150,000 visitors a year for self-guided tours and delivers specialty programs and events. You will be joining a small but growing team of tourism and museum industry professionals supported by a number of volunteers.

This is a Union position reporting to the Curator.
Our new Assistant Curator will make a significant contribution to developing our exhibitions. They will also play a key role in the care, development, research, display and interpretation of our varied collection both onsite and online. They will come with a History degree, 19th Century domestic material expertise – 19th century, architectural conservation experience, knowledge of research techniques, museum programming and exhibit design.
More than formal qualifications, we will be looking for relevant experience and an imaginative, dynamic, versatile and ambitious attitude. The successful candidate will be good with people – peers, colleagues, different audiences – and will have excellent written and verbal skills which they can adapt for different contexts including books, exhibit texts and social media. They will have very good computer skills, ideally with experience of collection management systems. They will be thorough, with a great eye for detail, and practically minded. They will demonstrate an ability to work on numerous things at once, as part of a small, busy team and to be self-motivated. They will have the ability to work to tight, firm and concurrent deadlines and to remain calm and focused under pressure. The role involves the physical handling of objects and research. The successful candidate will be adaptable and have an open, approachable and constructive demeanor.
The current work week is Wednesday through Sunday 8:30 am to 5 pm.
The successful applicant will join the Society’s group health benefits plan after successfully completing the 6-month probationary period and can participate in our RRSP program after 1 year of employment.
