The Product Development Leader is responsible for managing and implementing a wide range of projects related to new products, design changes, process optimization and other engineering activities. The candidate will have demonstrated a willingness to learn, the ability to share wisdom and will actively facilitate other staff group’s collaboration in getting product development work done right the first time. The candidate will be able to prioritize work in order to make time to think proactively and develop or modify manufacturing processes, methods and controls to meet operating and quality standards. The candidate will have a proven track record of seeing the big picture with examples of recommending and implementing improvements, modifications or additions.

Position Responsibilities:

• Provides technical oversight and coordination of product development work through part approval process and PD coordination meetings
• Provides feasibility studies for part tooling, molds and manufacturability
• Develops project objectives by understanding voice of the customer and marketing requirements
• Determines product specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates
• Evaluates designs by studying current design, prototypes, similar parts to improve products and processes
• Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests/simulations
• Manages design and process changes and coordinates with quality and production
• Maintains product development schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems
• Controls product development project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions
• Prepares product development status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and actions.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations. Complies with CRP safety policies
• Use design for manufacturing/lean tools during the product development process
• Utilizes principles of mathematics, science, and engineering to streamline processes;

Identifies opportunities to prevent waste and inefficiency in production

• Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility, utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis to formulate/support innovation, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities
• Develop and design robust manufacturing concepts to simplify/improve manufacturing processes to ensure best practice, building prototypes, evaluating performance, identifying issues, and make improvements
• Works with and manages contractors/vendors activities from request for quotes (RFQ) to new tool/equipment/machine commissioning
• Use SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D and 2D drawings, part dimensions, requests for quotes, product specifications
• Support the engineering team on other activities and projects

Education, Experience and Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field
• Project management competencies
• Strong Knowledge in Manufacturing Best Practices
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Ability to work well in collaborative group environments
• Good technical writing and presentation skills
• Must be well organized and detailed oriented
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook
• Literate in CAD, SolidWorks (3D and 2D)
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
