Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is currently seeking qualified individuals to join our team as an Operations Engineer at our Sweeny, Clemens, & Old Ocean location. Under the direction of the Unit Superintendent, the Operations Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support and troubleshooting analysis to ensure the unit runs safely and efficiently. They should drive The Tenets of Operation in their daily activities. This position will be driving daily plant optimization and longer-term projects. The successful candidate needs to exhibit strong safety leadership, initiative, teamwork, excellent communication skills, assertive decision-making, self-starter orientation, and a dedication to plant optimization. The operations engineer will work with the unit operators, engineering, leadership team, and all other departments to ensure all safety, environmental, production, and cost goals are met. #HPCP
Responsibilities
Safety and Compliance – A visible safety leader addressing safety and environmental issues promptly. Provides operations oversight and assistance for support group efforts. Champions compliance processes through MOC’s, JSA’s, CPA’s and PHA’s.
Environmental – Works closely with the environmental team to understand permit requirements, develop and lead training for operations. Prepares Environmental Emissions calculations and reports. Assists in the preparation of Monthly Title V reports.
Projects – Functions as a team representative on large projects. Will act as the project coordinator on various small projects. Maintains oversight of long-range scheduling activities such as deliveries, project implementation, and tankage movements as required.
Communication – Prepares operating instructions, operator training, night orders, and verbal communications for unit operators. Is the focal point of information funneled to local and central technical teams as well as reciprocating information back to the operations team. Coordinates with respective business teams on issues impacting feedstocks, products, utilities, and costs. Presents ideas and plans to local leadership teams as well as business teams.
Maintenance – Provides priority direction for maintenance scheduling as well as assists in developing maintenance plans for special projects.
Training – Provides oversight for Standard Operating Procedure updates and ensures integrity is maintained. Ensures NOC’s and MOC’s are accurate and well-communicated.
Quality – Ensures that the highest quality product is produced. Provides oversight of process conditions. Monitors the process operating conditions of the unit. Works with the team to adjust operating conditions as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and at least 2 years of manufacturing experience.
- Must be a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to demonstrate skills in evaluating and prioritizing work to ensure alignment with the department’s goals.
- Must have excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills..
- Must exhibit a continuous improvement focus in the areas of safety, environmental and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Olefins and Utilities operations.
