The Verification Director is a member of CoreAVI’s Engineering Leadership Team, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, and playing a highly collaborative role with the Senior Leadership Team. They lead strategy and operational execution for the above bullet points. This role drives process improvement and other organizational development to efficiently ensure compliance with a broad range of international standards such as DO-178C / DO-254, ISO 26262, and IEC 61508.

Responsibilities

Take ownership of company-wide certification process from the ground up with the goal of significantly reducing costs of compliance without compromising safety or quality.

Maximize re-use of artifacts and evidence across customers, applications, GPUs, etc.

Determine how to best Certify new product types like Compute (OpenCL, ComputeCore, SafeAI).

Leverage external contracting for improved capacity flexibility. Implement management systems that ensure quality assurance of outsourced engineering activities.

Roll out these changes / overhaul of certification with the aim of maintaining momentum in current programs.

Determine and roll out changes to our Certification products to match needs of planned customer-self-service portal.

Establish appropriate safety & security development lifecycle process, culture, and best practices to achieve industry certification requirements.

In collaboration with the sub-team managers reporting to you, drive day-to-day operations, including:

Functional Safety Certification Team: This team plans and executes certification processes and practices to produce certification packages across CoreAVI products. They serve as primary contact for all audits and assessments by external authorities (DERs, TUV Rheinland, etc)

Software Verification Engineering Teams: Our SVEs create, formally review, and update test cases for high-level functionality and low-level unit requirements across our certification programs.

Quality Assurance Team: QA runs full testing suites and handles packaging of all external software releases. They run the testing dry runs and formal run-for-score in our certification programs.

As a member of the Engineering Leadership Team, collaborate on engineering strategies, structure, processes, and tools.

Discuss Certification options with customers, answer questions from them (working with Head of Functional Safety Certification and SVE Team Managers).

Maintain a working knowledge of all team assignments and timelines (in cooperation with Project Managers). Help ensure high quality of on-time deliverables.

Manage performance coaching and reviews for direct reports. Oversee performance management and other HR functions of your full department. Interview, hire, train, and mentor managers across the team. Determine details of and sign offers for new hires.

Assist with and supervise Certification estimate creation for Sales opportunities

Manage 5-7 Direct Reports, 25-35 indirect reports and up to 40 external contractors.

Required Qualifications:
7+ years experience in leading organizations to achieve multiple complex certifications in one or more of DO-178C, ISO 26262, and IEC 61508.

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related area (MS preferred).

Proven track record of successful product safety certification.

Experience working with external independent assessors (TuV, Exida, etc)

Highly experienced in software development processes and best practices, with waterfall, agile, and blended approaches.

Outstanding verbal and written communication are crucial.

Passionate about people, process, and technologies and able to inspire and motivate others.

Strong work ethic with a sense of ownership, urgency, drive, and an unwavering commitment to do the right thing.

Experience setting and achieving “SMART” objectives. Knowledge of OKR approach helpful.

Continuous drive for learning, pushing technical limits, and finding new solutions

Desired Skills & Experience:
Experience with Defense / Aerospace markets, automotive ADAS & autonomous driving, AI, and/or industrial automation and robotics.

Software tools commonly used for certification, particularly IBM DOORS, Workflow Manager (RTC), Git, Bitbucket, Jira

Systems Engineering

Software verification and test automation

Quality Assurance

Previous experience as an embedded software developer and or knowledge of Graphics and compute framework (OpenGL SC 1.0, OpenGL SC 2.0, Vulkan 1.2).

Embedded operating systems (VxWorks, Integrity, Linux, DEOS, etc.)
